Swaping ecu's

I have a 98 awd 5speed and I want to run dsm link and need an eprom. My friend has a 95 Fwd auto turbo and he is willing to swap me ecu's if it will work. I dont know know if it will being auto and manual. He would want to put my 98 ecu in his. Would this work.

How do you know tours isn't an eprom. Auto to manual won't I believe.

So I pulled my 98 ecu and tried it in my friend 95. It cranks but will not fire. Whats the deal I thought this was supposed to work. This sucks cause im going to have to buy an eprom.

Disconnect the battery before removal.

yes it was disconected. Put his back in and it started right up.

I take it you forgot to swap the spark plug wires.

I guess that makes perfect sense why it wouldnt fire. So i would swap 4 for 1. 2 for 3

You'll want to swap 1 with 2 and 3 with 4. It should end up being 3-2-1-4 on the coil pack (it's originally 4-1-2-3).

Possibly. From what I've read it's a hit or miss whether it'll throw a CEL.

He always has a cel, cause of the downpipe. And it idles rough anyway. Cool, cause I really didnt want to buy an eprom.

haha yea the sad thing is i am willing to dish out the money for the dsmlink but im having a tough time dishing out the extra 200 for the eprom.
