I've got a Supra pump and a stock pump in front of me right now. I've read several install VFAQ pages and one thing bugs the hell out of me. This whole pump is submersed in gas or fumes less than an inch from the float, with nothing to seal the terminals. Wont that short out the amps needed, not to mention live wires in the fuel tank. I remember the airliner that blew up because of a short in the wires that ran though the fuel tank. I know its only 12 volts but I expected to see some kind of seal around the terminals like RTV or something fuel proof. WTF? Even the stock pump doesnt have o rings or anything to seal the blade terminals.

My guess is that gasoline is not a good conductor of electricity, or doesn't conduct it at all. If the positive wire touches the body of the pump, then I guess a spark could blow up your car considering it's immersed in flammable liquid.... I have a 3000GT VR-4 (made by Denso also) pump and my car hasn't blown up yet. I made sure I insulated the + wire really well and zip tied it away from the body of the pump.

I've got it assembled. The positive ring connector is maybe an 1/8" from the negative gounded pump mount, under gasoline, I dont like it. Besides I ran the thick positive wire all the way though the mount to the pump so I have to seal that hole too.

I sealed it with some 100% silicone that I had laying around, how long should it set up before I drop it back in the tank?
