Good morning all!! I'm needing some suggestions for the 95 awd talon I've recently purchased. I got very lucky on it and was able to purchase it for $900. The guy I got it from thought the transmission went bad,its an auto, and didn't want to full with it. I pulled all the aftermarket ebay pipes that were on there and found numerous leaks and a hole patched with a pop can and duct tape. I replace the pipe with the one from my 1g tsi and problem solve, no shifting issues.

I'm looking for some suggestions on where to go from here. I don't want 400 or 500 hp, I'm looking at a realistic 325 or so, but I really want a great handling car. The roads here are very crooked and this is the first awd vehicle I have owned. Also, should I use any parts from my 1g? It has a larger turbo if I'm not mistaken and tube looking manifold LOL. Thanks guys, pics will be up tomorrow.

Suggestions:

Front Mount Intercooler
Bigger turbo but what you have will make decent power (14b?)
DSM LINK
Larger Injectors
Better Fuel Pump
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Fresh air intake
Different BOV
Wideband A/F

I'm sure there is more...transmission upgrades/clutch upgrades, cams, suspension upgrades like you are wanting. See the other sections of this forum for more ideas other than the powerplant. Should be relatively easy to make 325. Thats kinda my goal, although if I acheive more I won't complain. Check all the normal maintenance things, plugs, wires, filters and fluids EVERYWHERE... Engine, trans, transfer case and differential. Timing belt if it hasnt' been changed to save it from some bad stuff. WELCOME to the forum. We are here to help out if you are willing to help yourself too. :)

^ spot on!!! Lol. Do your maintenance! Timing belt, pulley, etc. Before any of that stuff :). And I can highly recommend a good brake upgrade to that list.

First thing I did was change the fluids. Timing belt and tensioner are on the way. As far as suspensions go, should I do a full coilover kit or just good springs? The car isn't going on a track. It will be my dd, so I don't want a terrible ride. If I'm going to my Moms house, its way in the country I like to have fun. I'm thinking about using the 16g off of my 1g. Are there any fuel mods I would need to do if I'm only running at tops 14 psi on it? The car only has 113k miles. Thanks for the helpful replies.

With stock (450cc??) injectors it may run into fuel cut trying to keep up with the flow of the bigger turbo, if so then a pump would be needed. I think some guys/gals are running a 190LPH without a fuel pressure regulator but one is always a good thing so you know the car is getting proper fuel. If you went with a 255LPH then the regulator is a must. I'd say give it a try and see. You can always post your results or lack of results and ask for some more assistance. Does the car have a wideband sensor on it to track the Air Fuel ratios? Dont want you to lean out and have problems.

I have a regulator, its not put on yet, but came with the car. The guy was trying to make it go fast with out fixing the huge boost issues. It does not have wideband on it, but I do have a a/f gauge from my 1g, would this work?

Well it would at least tell you how rich/lean you are running if you go with the 16g. The closer to the turbo the more accurate but also harder on the sensor. I am running a wideband in the original 02 sensor spot for my LC2 wideband and so far, knock on wood, so good.

This is NOT something I would try but we bought a car that was setup this way: The FPR was cranked up and using stock injectors to richen up the mixture with a variety of parts to make it "go fast". It worked but didn't have Link. I think the guy just got lucky that it all worked together. We sold the car, even though it ran really good and the next kid burnt the clutch up in it. I don't know how because my son drove it hard and never had any problems with it, but..... there is a story.

Well this one had some very very ghetto work done. I can't knock him for trying but the boost gauge he put in was sealed with what looked like wood glue and tape, still had a leak. The brake bleeders were loose enough to turn by hand. Lots of stuff. I've got a set of 2g eclipse wheels I'm going to put on it.

I sounds like its in much better hands now. Ya know, when I got my '90, everything, absolutely everything was loose kinda like your brake bleeders. I tightened everything in site and it all needed it. Last week my son, Black97spyder, said "Dad, have you checked the head studs for proper torque since everything else, including the oil filter were loose?". I hadn't so I took the VC off and started checking the ARP studs and man were they loose. I would estimate they were at about 65 ft/lbs. I kept tightening and tightening and was about to think I was pulling studs out of the block, then they came in getting tight. Got them up to 105 ft/lbs and called it a very good day since I am tuning and was just about to go turn up the boost. Good thing I checked them. If you have the tools, it might not be a bad thing to check just to be safe. Not trying to make you work more but just something to add to a list of "things to do". Would like to see pictures of your car, especially with the different wheels on it. I keep mine as stock "looking" as possible just to be the "sleeper" around my area, LOL. If I had just painted that pretty FMIC black it would be even more stock looking but I couldn't bring myself to do that to such a pretty piece. Now I am fighting 2 broken power steering bolts that sheared off in the motor mount. Tried last night to extract them without any luck. May have to drill and heli-coil or retap them to make them work. Lucky for me I have a friend that is sending me a spare mount just in case I can't fix mine. Most people on here are so friendly and he is one....Thanks iugrad92turbo!!!

As soon as I get home I'll have some pictures up. I loved my 1g, it looked like a beater, but was very quick. I'm not a automatic guy, but I'll settle on it LOL. The way I look at it, the more work I spend preparing the less I'll spend repairing. I just need more time off LOL

You and me both. Been working 6 days a week for almost 3 months.....need time off....for my car LOL. My sons 97 TSI AWD is an auto and its fast. Never loose spool with an auto although my shifting is just about as quick!!!

Yeah, thats what I've read. When I first got the car, I thought the tcu was messed up. Wired in some switches to check the trans, and it worked, fixed the massive boost leaks and tried without the switches and shifts great. I did good on the deal LOL. My stepdad traded me a 2001 Hyundai Sonata with 88k miles and 900 cash for my Jetta. If all goes well, next week I'll be picking up a 94 Stealth, RT/TT for 1k.

Please check the crank pulley and replace it if it's worn, and service all belts as well so you won't have to deal with any squeeling.

You fell into some good deals there. Hope it all goes good for ya!!!

I'm about to give notice at my job as I am starting with a new company on 6/23. I almost hope they tell me to leave that day. More time for the car LOL

Ok, need some help. The oil line for the turbo near the oil filter was screwed in properly. It is in diagonally and I am certain at some point it will leak. The way it is in, I'm sure the threads are messed up. What are my options for fixing? Should I rethread or get a new oil filter housing and start fresh? I've looked on line for the housing and I haven't found one. Thanks all.

Ahh man, you rock. I've been working to many hours, as soon as I have chance I'll get some pics up so you can see how messed up it is.

Can always get a new oil filter housing.

Tomorrow I am supposed to be off, I was supposed to leave at 1 today. Have to close tonight and same tomorrow. I just want to work on it LOL
