Hey. non-dsm owner and forum veteran here to try and get some info on Holset turbo's

cool looking site,...i really like how its set up:hellyeah:

Thanks for the link man, its insanely hard to find info on the BIG holsets which is what im looking for 68mm+ ill try posting in that thread to see if anyone can help out:thumb:

its actually a duramax diesel, i tend to not put the info in some of the forums i'm on because no one seems to take you seriously when they find out you dive a work truck. well until they get their doors blown off:shhh:

just tried to post in that thread, but it wont let me:mad:

do i need so many posts or something to get into tech threads?

Yeah, you need a certain amount of posts to be able to post in tech threads. Just try searching around and reading within the links I sent. I believe the largest turbo that was run is the HX-52 and a member on here (Biglady) has it installed on his car. Might be able to get some info from him AFTER doing some research on here.

thanks, i think the hx52 might be a little small for me but ill see what he has to say anyways. thanks again

Hey, I am also new to this forum. It looks pretty interesting and can't wait to get into a DSM soon :D

LOL ouch. actually had a guy come in to work one day and said that if they made a truck with the cummins engine and allison transmission it would be a monster. i don't own a diesel.. and after having worked at a parts store, could never own a diesel... $100 oil changes? pfffffft i'll stick with my 5 gts. and a filter for $20 LOL

LOL well to be honest a lot of people think they know about diesel performance but really have no idea they just go off name recognition :ohdamn:

The allison is actually the worst of the modern big 3 and has been since oh about 2004 or so.... mine is built and setup for racing. 4k+ dollars later and its still not as good as a built 47re or torqueshift....

actually the big big duramax guys often get a conversion kit to use the dodge tranny's but that goes for about 12k. that being said if you leave well enough alone the Allison is awesome...when you add power though it crys itself to sleep

motor wise the durmax is still king at least for now...crushed the record held by the 12 valve for most power made with a diesel pickup motor. it was 1450 held by chris warner but now its 1759 held by diitri millard..still using stock pistonsOMG

sorry for the novel....im kinda just into it:hellyeah:

BTW thats about right for me, 10 quarts full synthetic + mobile 1 filter :(

yeah the guys come in and need 16 qts. of rotella and a big ol' motorcraft filter and i cringe with every gallon i scan. i'm like "yup, no diesel's for me!"

i don't know too terribly much about diesel's but from what i understand, cummins has been puttin them out the longest haven't they?

well you also need to take into consideration the change intervals too...duramax is recommended an oil change every 10k instead of 3 or 5. i do it at 7 though just to be safe.

and as far as pure time putting them out chevy wins with the 6.2...followed by the ford 6.9..followed by the first gen cummins 5.9 12 valve VE pump

problem is, ALL of those besides the cummins were garbage (power wise)... the fords and chevys didnt get turbo's until 93-94 the cummins had them right from the get-go in 89 but didn't intercool them until 91.

first gen cumins motor on the stock pump has a 500+hp potential... the chevys and the fords of the day would be lucky to make 300 to the wheels having already dumped a ton of cash in them
