Hey guys i have a 92 talon tsi with a few bolt on upgrades, just fmic, mbc, intake, full 3in exhaust, boost gauge.

wondering took it out for a spin, (just got the car) drives fine until WOT at about 4500 then car stutters then catches then stutters. went back home parked it. checked some of the intake piping to see if anything was loose. put back together drove out the driveway, 1st gear went right up to 6 grand easily then i shifted and second gear started to do it again.

Any thoughts or ideas of what this may be??

Thanks

Are you on stock injectors? I had this same problem, but I was throwing so much fuel at it that I was blowing spark. Just a thought

Change fuel filter check spark plug wires and spark plugs gap them to .26-.28 to start with.

yes they are stock injectors, ya I probably will replace the plugs they are cheap enough

Here is the order I would trouble shoot your problem:

1) Boost Leak test

2) New BPR6ES set at .028

3) New plug wires

4) Test coil

5) Check ECU for leaking caps

That is if your profile is up to date with mods and your not hitting fuel cut.

yes mods list is up to date. its just weird its fine all the way until 45 then cuts then it like bucks and catches again it feels like a fuel cut but idk theres so many different options

Had the same problem oem wires and new ngks was the fix

ok thanks for all of the ideas... i am going to try and do a boost leak test this week if i can put the time together to make a tester

its definitely a boost leak, had the exact same problem before. You'd be amazed at all the places the air can leak out. Test it and track it down and post where it was!

put new plugs in the car let it run for a little while and it was going much better, was not able to do the boost leak test because the compressor i was using crapped out when we were trying to use it. hopefully later this week i will try another compressor, but im thinking it is a boost leak because once the car was warm and all the hoses it didn't stutter.

So the studdering went away? I was going to ask you about your Air/Fuel ratio's. Maybe too much boost and not enough fuel. But most likely the plug wires are arcing at the coil side. Very visable at night.

Sounds like a boost leak to me. Are you still runing stock gaskets? 1g 4g63 engines used a sort of paper intake gasket that can blow out easy if you go any more that stock boost, id check that before messing with fuel and spark.

ya im pretty sure its stock gaskets for everything and its boosts up to 18 ish then starts fluttering down when its warm. i just bought the car from a dude who didn't know anything that had been done to the car, and after it was warmed up i started smelling burning oil so i brought it back into the garage and saw the oil filter housing was leaking or a hose around it so i have to fix that before anything now

my vote is for the coil pack, plugs, or wires. They typically start failing under heavy load and progressively get worse as time goes by. It will soon start stuttering at 4k then 3k and so on. Boost leak? Maybe. Doesnt sound like it to me. But still worth testing if the plugs and wires dont fix the prob. I would then replace coil pack.

Have you checked your ecu yet? I had similar problems before and I had a bad ecu. Do you have any error codes?

Have you changed anything else besides the plugs? Did you get ngk bpr6es plugs? The ngk wires are good also.

Definitely do a blt as soon as you can.
