I've gone through 2 OEM PCV (read boost leak) valves in 1500 miles since the car came off jack stands December 05. I'm tired of buying and replacing them even though they are not that expensive. I was going to pull the nipple out of the intake and put a 1/8 BSPT plug in that location and use the nipple from the intake and replace the PCV valve, however, the nipple is a press-in fit so that's out of the question. I just capped off the nipple and used the PCV valve as my nipple to "T" into the vent line going to the intake before a G-2 gas filter (catch can).

My question is why do I have to hog out the PCV valve internals? There shouldn't be a differential pressure type of thing going on, therefore the PCV valve should remain open, shouldn't it?

Below is a half-a$$ drawing of what I propose and if someone can give me a legitimate reason why it should be hogged out, I'll just order a nipple for it.

I installed the check valve towards the end of the vacuum hose closest to the IM. When installed the tip of the valve comes close to touching the nipple on the IM. The check valve is positioned vertically before the hose makes it's bend towards the PCV valve. The bend is sharp but not enough to kink the hose. I think this positioning looks a little nicer and it will have a little bit of gravity assist when cracking open (probably makes no difference but it won't hurt).

Now you just have to add a catch can between the check valve and PCV. Keep oil out of your IM.

When it all works for 10k miles, you can write a tech article with all of the part #s and pictures and whatnot and be FAMOUS!:p

Did FORMONTOYA ever get that rim fixed?

1) The second catch can for the PCV side is already on my "to do" list. Bruce and I both agreed that if you only have one it would be more beneficial to use it on the VC-Intake side since oil in the IC would probably be more detrimental than oil in the IM.

2) I would be happy to write up a tech article once the check valve has proven itself over time.:thumb: Especially since it seems that crankcase ventilation as a system with more than just one component is so frequently misunderstood. Maybe I'll get that second green square.:sneaky:

3) Jim has been absent from this thread for awhile. I was curious if he ever ended up getting one of the check valves himself.

I'm not sure how your PM being full fits into this though.

Publically asking for rep points is a no no , oh and my PM is full.
Damn you kids are slow.:toobad:

I was only kidding anyway, in fact, after the amount of hard work you have put in recently, I do believe you deserve to get your second green bar but all of us are limited to having to spread points around before giving to the same person again so maybe Mack daddy can help you. :p

I recently ordered two 22297 valves and two 64175 valves from USPLASTIC. I have already made two small catch cans with 3/8 NPT fittings welded on them. The below diagram is illustrated my setup. Please tell me if I need to modify anythings.

Everything looks good.:thumb: If you loosely stuff the catch cans with some type of filtering media it will promote even better removal of oil and heavy blow-by gases than just the empty catch can.

What other line?

Nevermind:coy: Disregard that whole thing. My brain is starting to fade. It must be that damn extra year I have on you.:sosad:

I deleted that portion so as not to confuse anyone. ok, ok--to minimize my embarassment as well. Of course everyone will be wondering what the hell I am talking about now. I guess I should just go to bed.

The smaller check valves have been holding up well so far for those of use that are using them. If you decide to use the other ones let us know how it turns out so we can get an idea of how they compare. Or better yet, maybe you won't mind using the small check valve in one line and the other check valve in the other line. This will give an even better idea of how the two compare and how well they hold up over a longer period. I don't want you to do anything that you're not comfortable with on your own car. But if you do it that way keep us updated as it will be useful info for us all.:)

In fact I'm planning to do NEW arrangement under the hood such as installing new FIC 1000cc injectors, removing unnecessary engine wirings and hiding the rest, repainting all the pipes and valve cover with new color. As soon as those works finished I'll post the result with some pics.

Crap, MK inadverdently saved my error for all to see. I managed to give away my age AND display my fading mental abilities all in one thread.:(

I've been here, just reading with not much to say.

No, the Eclipse is still on jack stands. Life happens and I've had my fill in the last year. Good thing it's just a toy and not important as far as getting around goes. However, I am down to the last 2 parts.....PS shock and fork to go! I "believe" I will be able to purchase them the first of May after I pay my IRS taxes.

Of course since the car has been on stands I haven't had the opportunity to try out the less expensive check valves, but I do like what I'm seeing as an alternative to the PCV valve alone. It looks like it can be accomplished successfully for just a small investment, which I knew could happen if enough people looked at it.

Great job guys!!

Let us know which you prefer of the 2 different types of check valves. Like I said before, i've got part # 22297 and i'm planning on switching to part # 64175 simply because of the size. With the one that i've got installed it's too easy to get a kink in the line (especially if you're using cheap silicone vacuum hosing), plus i really don't like the idea of re-routing the hose. I think that keeping the hose as short as possible is probably the best idea. ...Then again, I would like to get myself a catch can, and once that happens i'll be forced to add longer hoses and re-route the lines anyway.

I'll ... all the needed parts for the twin catch cans setup are available except those check valves ... hopefully they arrived within 2-3 days.

ROFL

You and Romeen are both youngsters :D

I feel much better now......misery loves company!LOL LOL

Strange thing is our 3 b-days are a total of 5 days apart (7- 6,10,11). Maybe we should start a special subforum to compare whose dementia is setting in quicker.:p
