alright, so im no noob, but im having the oddest of problems, with the simplest shit ever! i have a 1990 talon tsi awd. im in the process of putting it back together.
well before i tore it down, i noticed that the tranny mount wasnt lining up. i figured, meh oh well maybe its just a wrong mount out of a fwd or something. long story short, im getting everything buttoned back up, and i decided why not just get all the mounts from another bone stock 90 awd, and just put urethane inserts in em. so, i got every mount installed, except for the front mount. now that one sits off about 2 1/2 inches. so i undid everything, got that mount back on and now the tranny mount is off about 1 3/4 inches again. idk what the hell is going on, and im about ready to burn this bi*** to the ground. i even tried without urethane inserts, and had the same results. someone please help me!

its a 5 speed. but when i got the other mounts they were from the exact same year car as mine, and also had a 5 speed awd.

I just had the holes cut out on the transmount same problem. Fits like a charm, inserts dont matter.

nope no accident history or anything. thats what i thought at first as well, but did a carfax and asked the original owner(65 year old lady ) if she ever hit anything/anyone but didnt report it. and its obviously originalfront fenders, bumper etc. because everything including the bolts are rusted together .

You cant really say that because it could have been an accident early in its life that caused it and the bolts just rusted on to the new pieces. The only way it would be off really is there was some damage that tweaked something and it just forced the mount to flex and they decided to not touch it. Then since you took it off you just cant flex it back into position. Depending how much its off just try jacking up the engine and trans into different spots and try to line everything up. Maybe its just sitting off or another mount is a little bent.

ya i have tried jacking up the motor and tranny into diff. positions but still no luck. either way i go it is at least 1/2 an inch off somewhere. i think im just going to get a set off those billet mounts, and then go to mitsu dealership and get the other halfs of them that bolt to the frame/car itself. that way i start out with everything completely new and know that it IS for the right car and year. its just starting to get really irritating

so i did an engine vin check and come to find out, my engine is supposedly from a mitsu(instead oe eagle), fwd model engine, 2.0l t/c(whatever the t/c means). but my car is a 1990 eagle talon tsi awd. would that engine have any affect on my tranny not mounting up the right way on the frame or front cross member? here's my engine vin number 4A3CS54U4ME121881

and heres the engine vin website i found VIN Number Information

It shouldn't. I am running a 6-bolt N/A motor out of a 92 Eclipse GS Auto in my 92 Talon TSi AWD 5-speed. Once I swapped the flywheel it mounted right up (ok, it had to be kicked).

It might be easier to pull the motor and mount the tranny with it out of the bay. It will go in easier then. I am getting ready to install a true turbo motor, so I am pulling and installing all as one unit. Much easier

you guys are visualizing it so hard it seems you are looking thru the actual problem and exaggerating the issue,

assuming you tried moving the engine all around to try to get it lined up and it still doesn't work, one of the mount housings are either bent or damaged, period cut and dry... trying to figure out how it happened doesn't fix the plain fact that its not lined up and it needs to get lined up to fit. period

Just an idea....on my 2g I installed my motor and tranny together bolted up the driverside mount then the rear then the tranny...

I went to install the front and when I put the prothanes in I took the mount off thewn rebolted it on....I completely messed up which way the mount should have been pointing....The front mount on 2g's are offset meaning the mount sits more to one side than the other....basically like this the dashes are the mount the 0 is the mount.....____0__ or __0____

I'm sure you get the idea

Might want to check to see if you possibly did this yourself...

nothing upside down, nothing bent, nothing mis-aligned when installed. frame is straight (had the local frame straightening shop here in town look at it). i have absolutely no idea whats going on. motor mounts are for a 90 awd(took them out of another one that everything bolted up fine).

pictures would help a whole lot. sounds like one of the mounts is different causing misalignment issues.

Ignoring the transmission mount as I assume you have the correct one, only the timing belt side mount is consistently used from 90-94. For the others, front and rear, there are a variety of mounts used. Let me preface the following that when I write a variant of "interchangeable" I am referring solely to Mitsubishi part numbers and not of the physical mating of one mount to another. That being said, front wheel drive and all wheel drive mounts are not interchangeable; automatic and manual mounts are not interchangeable. There are also interchangeability issues among front wheel drive models as well, between turbo, 2.0L non-turbo, and the 1.8L.

Basically, using the wrong cylinder block roll stopper (which bolts to the engine) or the engine roll stopper bracket (which houses the bushings) in either the front or the back of the engine could be causing your problem. Here are the correct part numbers for these four pieces for an AWD with manual transmission. You can check yours to ensure you have the correct pieces.

The front mounts between the AWD and FWD are different if I remember correctly, I had to swap them (actually, my wife swapped them, she wanted to use the impact gun ).
