Motormounts toast?

Just recently when I am driving and tap the gas and let off I hear a clunk sound, we tested it in the driveway and the engine is moving forward and back ALOT more than I think is good... sounds like it goes so far something is tapping on another piece and making the sound. Is this usually just the front mount and what can I do to test this?

I think it was probably an issue before but wasn't bad enough to make a noise

My friends motormount is done and it is really obvious when you look at it while revving the engine. Sometimes the bolts break/come loose. Sometimes the mount breaks. If you look at the mounts you should be able to see the problem.

How much movement should there be? My driver side mount looks like its squished towards the back of the car direction

You really don't want much movement at all. The less the better. The mounts themself sometime won't move if they are not working properly. His literally lost the bolt and the mount won't budge but the motor does when he touches or lets go of the gas.

There are four motor mounts to look at and usually the oem rubber tears apart which is what probably happend in your case with what you are describing. Check the bolts to see if they are loose.

Definally the mounts or the tranny mount. I had the same problem. But the mounts wernt ruined, the **** that threw the car together to get it sold didn't install a nut on the thru-bolt.. Poor car I am getting it hooked up though =]
