ok I have a 96 FWD Auto Talon that’s my buddies. The guy he bought it from said the trans was screwed. I drove it and it seamed messed to me too but the engine was running like crap. Anyways we swapped out the trans with a rebuilt one got all the small engine running issues taken care of and the new trans is doing the same thing the old one did it is stuck in 3rd gear or Limp mode I am assuming. We tried another TCU and that did nothing. The only thing I can think of is a bad connecter or a cut wire to the plugs. I am going to look at it again tomorrow night and see if I can pull the Codes from it and start checking all the connections. So we swapped the Trans with a good working one and both were stuck in limp mode .... Any ideas before I tear this thing up again?

Thanks,
Jay

Not sure if its the same for 2gs prolly is. I put in 2 trannys same prob turns out I swapped two connectors that fit into each other. Hooked up the first time it was all neat and looked good now that I swapped those it works but looks messy so I can see how it could be easy to not get this right at first! Good luck P

I pulled the codes from the car and this is what I got

P0141..... Downstream heated O2 sensor heater scircuit fault (bank 1)
P0443..... EVAP VMV circuit fault
P1105.....Fuel Pressure Solenoid.
P0403..... EGR transducer circuit open or shorted
P1600.....Serial Communication Link

I know the EGR and I think the EVAP VMV is because I have an EGR Block off plate. But will any of these trip the ECU to put it in limp mode? What is the P1600 code mean ... I thought I read somewhere that it means that you have unpluged the battery (which I did right before I pulled the codes)

Any Ideas ?

Thanks,
Jay

to my knowledge tcus and ecus dont communicate so the codes from the ecu are from your ecu. To check your tcu codes you need to get a voltmeter and read off two connectors. Again mine was a 1g and the proces is the same but the plugs are different check it out here

charles had a good writeup on it. In the first scroll down box go to pull AT codes.

Ok this is now killing me. The codes will not pulse I didn't 30 different times and it is not pulsing anything. Is there any other tricks? It is stuck in limp mode with no overdrive light on or off the switch seems good w/ a tester. Man I need a place to start I know there its probably something stupid like a bad harness or open wire somewhere. This is a 95 with a 97 ECU which is no big deal done that a hundred times. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Jay

Try making a post at the ImportPerformancetrans.com forum transdude will answer your questions quick over there. I dont think hes on this forum as much anymore.

Or give him a call.

Check the fuses. All that happened when my tranny went into limp mode was a blown reverse light fuse or something like that.

Mine didn't give any codes for the trans either.

The first step would be to get the TCU codes scanned with a scanner

Often times, "flashing" out the codes doesn't work and is useless.

Keep us posted.
