Hey guys, im new to this site but anywho...
Almost all the bolts holding my valve cover down were stripped, i dunno if any of you have this problem but what i did was get a 1/4" 20 thread tap, 6-3/4" 20 thread 1/4" diameter bolts, 8-" 20 thread 1/4" dia. bolts, 14 1/4" dia. washers.
Take the valve cover off and use the tap to make the holes a little larger. be damn careful not to get the little alluminum shavings in the engine.

I have the same problem, i think im going to heli-coil the holes, but my question is what size heli coil kit do i get to retap the holes??

3 holes on my head for the VC bolts are stripped. Just picked up 1/4" - 28 bolts and tap. Will these work?

I have read on here to use 1/4" - 20?

Also, I am going to helicoil the holes this weekend. But for this week to get back and forth to work, I need a temporary fix. Oil is leaking pretty bad and getting on the header.

If I retap the 3 holes to the site above, is there still room to helicoil them?

Are the 420A and 4G63 valve cover to head bolts the same size? I found out that a few of my threads are stripped and the valve cover is leaking oil on the manifold when fully warmed up. I need to get my car running again and am in the process of doing it. What would be the easiest and most effective way to fix the problem for good? I want to be able to take the valve cover off when I want to without restipping the threads or the any other threads. What size should I drill out the threads and what size helicoils should I use?

See if you can find a helicoil for the stock bolts size and thread pitch. that would be ideal..

well for one, it will be metric

its M6x1.0 thread

try to get that helicoil

It will suck if you get different bolts in there, the heads will most likely never match..

Have you tried just simply using longer bolts? The threads in the head go further down then the stock bolt size. I had 5 stripped holes in my previous 2g head and this method worked great.
