1/8" NPT Tap add another PCV with a spot of thread sealant/RTV/JBWeld = Done :dsm:

1st gens have screw in PCV valves? Interesting. I think if it came down to it you could probably do like the second gens and put the rubber sleeve in there and rig it up somehow.. good luck.

Ok, I just bought my car (92 tsi awd) few days ago... it threw a cell the other night and did the whole vaccume leak poopie idle thing and I finally figured out where it's leaking from.

Previous owner stripped out the threads in the head where the PCV valve screws into ...
right now it's ghetto rigged into the plug with a metal clothes hanger to keep my fresh (and overly priced) synthetic oil from squirting all over my head

My question is...

Which option sounds better to you guys?

1. Try to JB weld and then re-drill and re-tap the hole (preferred)
2. Try to find a PCV valve with the same charactoristics as ours, but with bigger threads and re-tap the hole
3. New head (which I REALLY don't want to do ... but will If I ABSOLUTELY must

I just really get annoid with my CELL light being on all the time, plus I still gotta pass emissions and it's 1 more thing I have to worry about to make my car legal.

You wouldn't need a new cylinder head just a new valve cover, which you can find cheaply anywhere.

Whoops ... I did say Head didn't I? ... haha, It was kinda late.

I meant valve cover.

I would just rather spend $4 on some JB-weld then $30 plus shipping on a new valve cover.

J B Weld. When you replace the valve then you will have to replace the vavle cover but at least that buys you some time.

But you should always have some J B Weld handy, just in case (so your $4 isn't wasted :sneaky: ).

I'm with bullet. If you can't afford it,just JB it, but keep in mind you'll need a valve cover. Just wait for a 50% off day at your local junkyard and buy a valve cover for 10 bucks, then paint it jdm yo red.

Retapping the valve cover will not work very well and will most likely make the problem worse... (I have snapped a piece off a valve cover by tightening the pcv vavle by hand) I would suggest RTV... If you clean it real well and let it set up... It will hold ya pretty well until you need to replace the pcv valve (or upgrade parts and have to remove the damn thing from the valve cover).

Actually I was going to try and tap the JB instead of Having a permantly stuck PCV in my head.

And thanks for the link Defiant, defaniately going to have to look into that stuff.

Is it even possible to tapp JB weld, I wouldn't think it would be solid enough but personally have never tried. I like to do things the right way :p

Guess I'll just have to see tomorrow when I FINALLY get around to fixing it.

J-B kwik weld is to cars what duct tape is to the red/green show

not only did it work quick, but it also took to being threaded like a champ. I just passed emissions today with it. :D which means i saved $30 plus shipping for a new valve cover. :thumb:

When all else fails, play dead. Long live Red Green!

Keep an eye on it, I don't know that it'll survive long under exposure to hot oil. I know slow-JB isn't especially keen on it.

I definately plan on it.

I'm usually a do it right- do it once kind of guy... and have since talked myself into a new valve cover as soon as I can afford it

It's better in the long run anyways ... I just reallly needed to pass emissions while the car was still easy to make legal again.

Thx Guys :thumb:

I know you probably won't, please don't tap the valve cover while it's on the head. Probably wouldn't be the best thing to do, then you would probably would need a head among other things.

God no, I had the valve cover off and tapped it upside down, backing it off every thread and a half ish to let things fall out ... then i took the compressor to it and finally flushed it with old oil.

Believe it or not... once in a great while ... I do do things right (sorta) LOL ;)

Besides, a new valve cover is on the way ... maby even powdercoated :thumb:
