What are the limitations of the stock turbo. How much HP can you make with the stock t25 turbo. Also why can the t25 limit it so much. Even with FMIC injectors exhaust intake all that good stuff what is the reason that it limits you.

Im fairly new to DSMs and turbos in general. So i just want to know the reason that it can limit and entire engine.

Also what is the max HP you could get out of a 16g.

Thanks for the help just trying to learn couldnt find anything covering this that well when i searched.

The T25 in the 2G is limited to about 17psi and mine with a good tune made 265whp.. They are too small and it is better just to upgrade.. Even if you do bump it up to 17psi the turbo life is shortened way down and it will start to fail pretty quick..

The 16g can do way better. They flow around 330cfms. 20 pounds of boost still flows cool out of the turbo. I have heard of 400 hp out of a 16g on spray and built motor

I've seen cars into 10's with 16g's.

thanks for all the help. Im leaning towards going with the 16g. I dont need ridiculous power as it is a daily driver but i like to take it to the track. And ive heard that the 16g spools pretty quick. I still want the turbo to kick quickley as it will be on the road more than a track. And not a whole lot of highway more city driving

The 16g has many different varients. Depending on which varient you are looking at, each will have its own horsepower capabilities. A fully ported Evo 3 16g is the best of them all and has the airflow to support 400hp with the appropriate supporting modifications and a good tune.

The T25 on the other hand, was not meant to be a high horsepower supplier to our cars. Mitsubishi used the Garrett T-25 turbo on 2g turbo models because of its driveablility on our motor. If you have not noticed before that when on the freeway in top gear, if you accelerate without changing gears, the power is right there. This is because of the spool characteristics of it. That is why mitsu decided to use this turbo. For the average person it was a nice little kick in the boot whenever you called on it. It was consumer friendly.

BTW, this has been talked about many a times on this forum. I would reccomend using the search tool to read up further on this subject.

i was searching for it couldnt find anything specific other than that it limited HP. i wanted to know the reasoning.

I seen cars with the EVOIII 16G in the 9's, an my car is hitting 485HP on my EVOIII 16G without nitrous.... Methanol does wounders.
Who did your tuning?

TPG made 499whp on a 16G recently and it was a huge deal; how come I've heard nothing of your build until now?
