stock tires?

my 1990 talon tsi project is getting closer to done by the day. i need to get some tires because all four of mine are dry rotted. im just going to buy some used tire to put on now until im done with tunning and all other work that need completed. the tire on rims now are 205/55/r16. but im having tough time getting used tire in that size. is this stock or did someone put these things on here. basicly i neeed to know what stock tire size is. again this is not for racing just to get me by till i get new rims and tires. thanks

yea wish i had, i tried to respond that day from iphone but it would go through. i was gonna ask about wider tires. but to late now there on there. i plan to get new tires and rims once the car is up and running good.

I have 215/55 r16 with no problems with a slight drop, I have a 2g I dont know if it matters.

215/55 r16 are 95-96 GSX stock tires, they may fit 1g as well

The 205/55 16 are 24.9 inches tall (what you have currently)
The 215/55 16 are 25.3 inches tall (what I have)

SO its only a .4 of an inch difference, I think you will be ok if you were to come across 215/55 cheaper. I hope this helps.

Wrong! The sidewall on a 215/55-16 is definitely taller than a 205/55-16. The sidewall height is a ratio of the first two numbers. Therefore when comparing any two tire widths with the same middle number on the same rim size the wider tire will always have a wider/taller sidewall.

You can go to Discount Tire, Custom Wheels, Truck & Car Rims | Discount Tire put in your vehicle info they will give you from plus 0 to 3. Like 225/40r18 will fit or 195/60-16.

225/40/18? I had 225/50/16, that isn't too bad of a size to find. Tire size calculators only work if manufacturers adhere to things, which they don't. Circumference will differ between makes and models of tire even if the written size is the same.

No they weren't. According to the FSM.

2G's got either 185/70R14, 195/70R14, 205/55R16 or 215/50R17.
1G's got either 185/70R14 or 205/55R16

you can do all the math yourself if you find some other size.
for example : 205(x)/55(y)r16(z)
x divided by 25.4 = ?
? times (y)% = ?
? + ? + (z) = overall tire diameter

205 divided by 25.4 = 8.07
8.07 times 55% = 4.44
4.44+4.44+16 = 24.88 inches tall


As mentioned above, different manufacturers will actually vary a little (mainly in width), even being the same size. Height usually is not varied very much at all. And the 225/50r16 is a great option to go a little wider for anyone wanting to use same wheels and get some more rubber on the ground.
