So this definitely belongs in the newbie section but I couldnt find anything through searching. I'm curious how much of a difference running differently worn tires affects the drivetrain? I know that ideally they should be bought new and evenly worn but I'm in the process of my build and had an opportunity to pick up some winter tires very cheap. They look like theyre in great condition but I think two of them are worn a mm or two more then the other two. They are all the same type and size of tire, bridgestone blizzak 205/65?/17
My question is how much this affects the different components and at what point does a difference in tire size cause damage.

Assuming that you put the two worn tires at the same end of the car (which you should), the only thing affected by this is the VC on the center diff. And a few millimeters of tread won't actually affect the VC much at all, especially when it is cold outside.
