hehe kinda dumb question but whats stock boost on my car? just wondering if its worth it to install a boost controller and gauge without bov thats all. thanx

I just hooked up my boost gauge today and it read a whopping (ok not so whopping, but pretty high for stock) 14 psi fully spooled at 3200rpm. The only mods I have are intake and bcs restricter taken out. Is it normal to be this high? I mean the power is there, it's just strange to be that high. And my vacuum is at 20hg, is that normal?

My 1g ran at least 14, 15psi sometimes depending on the weather.. all I had done were free mods aswell.. and 20hg is also a healthy reading.. Indications of a well running car.. good job.

Mine maxed out at 11 PSI with the BC solenoid removed and going straight to the waste gate from the j-pipe. Just to be sure your gauge is correct; you can always test it with an air compressor.

sounds more like a 2g boost level to me. But its ok though, if your stock fuel system is intact then you shouldnt have any problems, even though id recommend upgrading fuel filter/ fuel pump . If you have any exhaust mods that could also raise boost depending on your set up. Remember every cars different.

I ran 13 psi when I removed the restrictor out of the BCS on my car, 14 psi is a little high but not ridiculous or anything.

It sounds to me like your wastegat isn't functioning properly. Does it creep or is it steady at 14? If you are running ok then just make sure your fuel filter is clean and pump is funtioning properly just to be safe.

What is the stock boost pressure on a [DSM]?

1G cars have a stock boost pressure of 8-12 psi. 2G cars have 10-15 psi. The service manual allows lower pressures, but those are rarely seen in actual vehicles.

This was taken from 1000 already ask questions. bigboycsrobo this is like my noob handbook, alot of good reading.:dsm:

LOL i wasnt that far off, i was just going off what i have personally seen.

Where are you guys getting these numbers? A stock RS eclipse N/T has 140 HP. A turbo Eclipse has 210 HP. (At the crank stock) So by my calulations that should put the stock boost at 7-8 PSI. (Figuring 9-10 HP per pound of boost) I'm running 15 PSI now and I have a built engine, so I dont see how this could be stock.

The 2g Eclipse NT has a completely different engine than the turbo versions (420A compared to the 4g63T) so you cant calculate boost pressure based on power differences. Also in most cars that have a turbo and non-turbo variant while using the same engine (1G DSMs) the non-turbo is usually factory equipped with higher compression pistons so it becomes a lot more complex to do comparative calculations.

That still doesnt answer the question of who is correct. Although the N/T and turbo are completely different motors, the way HP is calculated should still be roughly the same.
Shouldnt it?

No, it doesn't quite work that way.

The figures for stock boost levels mentioned earlier for both the 1g and the 2g, as found in the 1000 Already Answered Questions, are correct, for the most part.

Hey guys, lately I put in an autometer boost gauge and guessing from me not knowing how to read the stock boost gauge, I was boosting around 9 PSI. When I got the gauge hooked up and ready, I saw that it is boosting @ 14 PSI!

The car is stock. I did nothing whatsoever to raise the boost. Or else I am wrong and stock is 14?

Any info is appreciated. I'm not worried about anything; I am only wondering why. THANKS!
