hehe kinda dumb question but whats stock boost on my car? just wondering if its worth it to install a boost controller and gauge without bov thats all. thanx

Hey I got a 99 gsx pushing 12 lbs of boost right now I'm wondering how much more boost I can push on stock internals and fuel pump. It's got an intake exhaust evo 8 bov And a fmic kit that is not on the car yet. and that's about it would 14 lbs be safe? At how much boost would you recommend to throw in the fmic?

how do you go about turning the boost up and what type of bov should i go with I have a 90 4g63 and what is a safe level without major head and engine mods

You can adjust your boost pressure with either a manual boost controller or electronic boost controller. A manual boost controller is more simple to use. As far as how to install/use a MBC, I'm not going to explain in this thread. There's plenty of info on that all over this forum. As for a BOV, I'd recommend a stock 1G BOV.

Well the stock gauge says 14 at max but my aftermarket says 10 psi... couldn't be a boost leak could it?

Viva, you seem to be under the impression the stock gauge actually means anything. It tells you the following: you're at vacuum/you're not. That's it.

Trust your AM boost gauge.

Oh i always known the stock gauge was as useful as an ripped condomROFL. thing is my gauge should easily go to 12 or 14.

I have a 97 GST FWD MT and I wanted to know if anyone knew the what the factory boost is? I googled it an looked around on here but havent found a definitive answer yet. My dsm came with a boost gauge already installed although it was done wrong. Its now fixed and reading about 12 psi and previously it was running around 15. So I am just trying to figure out what mods have been done since the dsm came with random parts removed and unplugged. still runs good on the other hand. Im just one of those people that likes to know whats going on with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated:hmm:

After some more searching ( changed it to factory boost pressure from stock boost pressure) looks like the factory boost is around 12 psi since I guess the 2g bov cant take much more than that, although mine didnt leak at my 15psi boost leak test. CORRECT ME IF IM WORNG PLEASE

I believe stock boost for the 2g's are around 10psi . What kind of vacuum is the car pulling at idle at operating temperature ? It should be around 17-20 with no vacuum leaks . I would maintain stock boost until you understand what set-up is on your car and what each modification you have on it is capable of after doing some research . 2g bov's can handle more then stock boost easily , but a 1g crushed bov can hold as much as an aftermarket bov . Hope this helps . :hellyeah:

I believe your wrong stock boost on a 2g is 14.3psi. on a 1g stock boost is 10.1 psi. not being an a$$ just letting you know.

ya when I first got the gst it had an aftermarket boost gauge installed an was running like 15 psi so I thought thats what it was running. well after I have had the car a while now I found that most of what the PO had done was compeltely wrong and ass back wards. Thought I might check my gauge install and sure enough is was T'd into the damn line that goes from the throttle body to the BOV. I will never understand that guys thinking. Anyways so after I installed it correctly it reads about 12 psi. I was under the impression our cars ran like 8-10 psi stock but after some reading it looks more like 12 psi which is what I am running now. I just removed my BCS restrictor and we will see what its running now.

I did a boost leak test at 15psi since thats what I thought I was running and my only leak was at the stock upper intercooler pipe. Im not saying your wrong or trying to discredit you but it should leak when you do a boost leak test right if it is leaking? Anyways Im gonna jump in it right now and will be back in a couple minutes to tell you if there is any change in the boost pressure.

I saw between 13 and 14 psi on that run. Not bad but not really something overly noticeable. Most just on the gauge but its running more than 12 psi now. Not sure if the BOV is leaking but it will be something that gets replaced most definitely to eliminate that from happening in the future.

Your 2g BOV is leaking... 12psi is usually the max for them. Plastic junk.. Get a 1g BOV.

Believe me its on the list. When I get the FMIC it will be gone!
Side note* Any ideas why my boost gauge needle would shake?

Shake as in fast and jerky like a seisure?

or

Shake as in move back and forth a little slowly and smooth?

If its fast and jerky i would say poor quality gauge.

It will move slowly back and forth when cruising because even though the tach is not moving the rpms are constantly changing.

i have fric, intake, bov, spark plugs, stock turbo (14) how high can i run my boost, with out ruing my turbo quickly
