hehe kinda dumb question but whats stock boost on my car? just wondering if its worth it to install a boost controller and gauge without bov thats all. thanx

When you say blowing off, I hope you don't mean to the atmosphere. That'll cause nothing but problems with the way your car runs. There're threads all over this site explaining why, but just trust that it's not a good idea at all.

with the bov circulated you can still here the whooooosh, just not like the Honda guys , but if you really want that sound get a GM Maf and a MAft translator and your good to whoosh to the atmosphere or you can follow the upgrade route and whoosh to the atmosphere when its convienent not when you want to.

He mentioned that he has done nothing to his car whatsoever and is completaly stock, so I think we are safe to say he is not venting to the atmosphere.

I think the comment about blowing off in his friends faces meant like speeding away/blowing them away??? It almost sounds dirty, but I'm sure that's not what he meant.

My stock BOV leaked at 13psi.

HA yeah guys. I'm talking about about just spooling up giving them the whine of the turbine as I drive away.

ive looked on here trying to find the problem thats with my car. I got a new turbo put on its a 14b with 40000 miles on it. I checked the shaft play and it really didnt have alot which is good. But my question is on a completly stock gst how much boost do they have.
Im only getting 7psi and after 5,000 rpms it stops pulling hard. Any help would be helpfull

ok. You know i really like the car but my brothers accord can beat me... Which kinda sucks. I made a boost leak tester. Looks like im gonna have to put it to the test. Wats the most common spots on these cars. too look for a leak

Copied from the Boost leak tester page:

* BOV flange
* Intake manifold ports
* Throttle Body gaskets
* Holes in the intercooler
* Holes in the intercooler piping (sometimes the rubber pipe inside the stock woven mesh pipes cracks, and you can't see it from the outside... the pressure tester will find it though!! )

Use a spray bottle filled with watery and dish soap. Should be able to find it fast.

ok its a 1990 gst. i just did a tune up on it and at idle every once in awhile when the car is warmer is studders for less then a second then idles fine again. it does this when ever i go to stop. and under load the car pulls good but its only puttin 7 psi out

Do you have a MBC? I take it no? Whats your exhaust look like what size? Did you do a boost leak test? You should be able to run a significant amount more than 7 pounds on a 14b... Do your boost leak test first and you'll be surprised how many leaks you find.. They could also be the cause of your poor idle on warmup... vaccum leaks etc.. get a TESTER and MBC go to work.. gogo

I was under the impression that the 14bs' have their wastegate pressure at 8psi or so and then you get a few extra psi via a BCS. My guess would be at one point the car had the BCS disabled or an MBC installed and then it never went back on so now you're sitting at wastegate pressure. You may think it's 7psi, but your gauge could be off possibly. That's all speculation of course as I have no way of knowing for sure. I may be off about the BCS but I'm pretty sure 1Gs' have them too.

Boost leak test is always a great idea. Throttle body gaskets or shaft seals, injector seals, connecting points from the tb elbow to the smic, anywhere on the ic pipes, compressor outlet, intake manifold, etc are all common places.

You could also just try turning up the boost (haha I know not the OEM recommendation) and see how that works. Of course make sure you have a real boost gauge. Good luck man. I'm just offering my $0.02, but of course I have no idea what it really is because I'm not there. Peace.

Right,

I have a a/m boost gauge and did a pull with my 14b powered 2g. It read 7 psi before I let off, and that's the wastegate and the jpipe nipple connected the the stock BCS.

I was wondering, does it matter where the intake hose or the turbo hoses hook up to the BCS? J/w

+1...deff. should be boosting more with that 14b. Your not running the stock bov are you? That bov is a piece of crap that leaks more than pamela andersons vagina.

I think the guy who started the post has a 1G GST so he has the metal BOV. They still can leak like Palmela Handerson's vag though if the gasket went bad or the screws are loose. 2G are retarded. I'd rather run a "hooter" valave ahaha!

i got rid of the stock one i have a type s bov now. But i did a boost leak test today and it sounded like it was coming out of the intercooler.
real loud vroom when the air hit it and it wasnt building boost either. Is there anyway that those can go bad like that?

Look at it as in excuse to get a front mount. ;)
