There is a amp built into the head unit, and if you have the infinity sound system there is an additional amp under the passenger seat.

Thanks yes its the infinity, I dont have sound, think it could be the amp, the stereo works fine just no sound. Does anyone have a spare for sale?

OK I got a sub in the rear which is using my rear rca's. Can I split the fronts with two spliters and use the adapter, wiring up all the front speakers to just the front rca output off the head unit?

Yes you can split the rear RCA's to the sub and amp. Just buy a "Y" adaptor from Radio Shack or any other electronics shop.

check the fuse. If its not that, it might be a blown amp. Somehow, i blew the back half of my amp. I replaced the deck (with an aftermarket), and somehow that disables the amp, so i have sound again.

Has anyone ever installed a second amp to run a sub in your stock infinity stereo system?

if so, which wires did you use for the remote? and are there RCA jack on the stock deck or the stock amp where I can split the line to the second amp???

or do i have to tap into the speaker wires and run that to the second amp?

Eeerg, good luck. No, the stock Infinity premium system isn't regarded as a real system by the sort of folks who'd use a second amp. And good luck trying to find out specs on the system, they're rarely listed.

Yes,get a line converter.It converts speaker wire singnal into rca.This is just 1 example of teh many different types out there.

You splice off the rear speakers and run your amp to the rca outputs.I have the stock Infinity system with a Punch 55.2 and a 10" sub.You have to look at the back of my deck to find the remot wire.I can't remember what color the wire is.

for the trouble you will put yourself through, buy a 4 channel amp, run the subs off 2 channels and the other speakers off of the other 2,,,or just chuck the whole stock setup and start fresh

ok so if i ditch the infinity headunit(hu)+amp and install a new hu i have to find the speaker wires under the seat and run them to the new hu or to a new amp and power the amp from the hu
the 2nd choice sounds better

Yeah,but if you get a new hu and amp.You may as well run new wires ,unless you want to run your speakers of the new hu with the factory amp......This what I did.I'm keeping my stock hu/amp so i brought a wiring harness.I put Infinity Ref 2 ways 6 1/2 in the doors and 6x9's in the rear.Then added the signal converter to the rear for my amp/sub....For me this is good and it sounds good...I'm not competing or anything......So what it boils done to is what do you want....

Hey DSM'ers. Just got my crushed-pearl white 97 GS-T yesterday and i'm thinking about some sound upgrades (gotta bump, ya know?).

So I'm wondering, with the stock amp located underneathe the passenger seat, is it possible to use that to hook it up to a sub?

how did you end up with a stock amp in an RS? i thought only the gst's and gsx's had them. anyways the stock amp is nothing special. its not like an aftermarket amp. its just there to run the stock speakers. your best bet would be to just bi-pass the stock amp and get a better one.

sorry dont know what the wattage is on the amp or how many channels it is because its just a plug that fits into it, just like the back of a deck.
