Whats up everyone,
I just bought the STM shifter cable bearings for my 99 2g and I have no idea how or where to install them. I keep hearing that I have to press them in with a C clamp, but I don't know where or how. Can someone please help. Pictures or a diagram would help a lot and if anyone knows of an install guide please link me to it. Thanks.

Wow thanks a lot for the link, but those first 2 pictures in the shifter cable bearing install show the shifter base where the actual stick shift is and the second picture shows the roller blade like shifter bearings on the shifter. Then the other pictures tell you to press the shifter bearings into the cables. So does that mean I need three shifter cable stiffeners? 1 for the actual stick shift and 1 for each shifter cable?

I bought the ones from Split Motorsports.
$10 cheaper and no C clamp needed.

What you bought are the 'bushings' that will replace the worn old rubber sets located in the transmission linkage underneath the hood.

I used the stud that's welded to the passenger side strut tower for the battery tie down. Put the bushing on that, and use a small rubber mallet and a socket that is larger than the bushing but smaller than the cable end. A few light taps and you're good to go!

Forget it I'm an idiot I was looking at the picture wrong

Yeah I know I got ripped off as soon as I bought these I looked around some more and found the same ones on ebay for $10 LOL

I think I'll try the C clamp method, but while on the subject of shifting LOL does anyone happen to have a good idea for a short shifter? I know the subject has been beaten to death in other threads, but just wondering your guys opinion on them and if there's any you prefer.

Whatever you do, make sure you go around the shifter openings with some 800 grit before trying to press those bearings in.

you couldve went to a local skate shop and gotten them far cheaper. back when i was like 15 working at a local skate shop we sold full sets of bearings for like $8. we'd even have a couple extra that we give out if kids broke theirs.
