I am looking for a tire that I can drive on the street and still get good grip drag racing at the track. The rims they are going on are a 17x7.5. So far I have come up with BFGoodrich drag radials, Advan A-048, Toyo RA1, and the Nitto NT 01. As long as I can get one season (10k miles) out of them I will be happy.

If you check the tread wear, it should give you a good indication.

Not really. A lot of tires are overrated or underrated for various reasons.
 
You may like Falken RT-615. Cheaper than all of those, and is similar in grip. And will last quite a bit longer than the others you listed. Shoot for 225/45 for size.

Agreed, manufacturers know that people look at these ratings. They can be swayed for what the buyer may want. Higher rating= less sticky, last longer and vice versa for lower rating. In my experience this is only half true.
 
Well I think I am just going to go with the BF Goodrich drag radials and see how long they last.
 
Those Advans you mentioned and the Toyo RA1 are competition/road racing tires. They need a lot of heat before they really grip. They wouldn't make good drag tires. Just FYI.

Also, for drag racing it's ok to go wider than you normally would on a wheel. For instance, I wouldn't run more than a 225 on a 7.5 wheel for road racing, but for drag racing you could definitely use a 235 or maybe even a 245. The sidewall would bludge but this is good for straight line grip.

Thanks. What do you think of the Nitto's? Are the more of a road race tire as well? I can get the Nitto's in a 245/45/17 and the BF Goodrich in a 225/45/17.
 
Get the BFG drag radial it is built for the exact situation you are describing. Minimal driving with drag racing in mind, hence the DRAG radial name. It will out perform and high performance "street" tire in a drag racing application.
