stero system screwed up

alright, i have a alpine amp, alpine cd player and alpine speakers. Lately my system pretty much wont play. It will play for like .5 seconds, then shut off and make a popping noise, then come on and off and so on. I tried changeing the speakers and that didnt work, thought maybe it was just the cd but thats not it. Tried playing with the amp wires and couldnt figure that out. I am pretty much deperate right now cause driving with no radio sucks. if anyone can tell me what might be the matter that would be great.

In order to really figure this out you really need a digital multi meter. If the radio is cutting out then you more than likely have a bad ground, power wire is grounding out, or speaker leads are touching each other causing them to short out the amp.

I really need more info on your setup though to make a more accurate diagnosis. Like if the amp is for subs only, or is it a 4 channel for all the fronts and rears.

the amp is a 4 channel. I had someone else hook everything up, so i didnt even know the speakers ran through it until the other day. But they definetly do. I dont really know how they run to it cause there is only the normal two wires hooking up to the rear speakers. So one of them must run to the amp im assuming. Also, I think my front speakers might be blown, but couldnt figure out how to get the panel off the door to get to them, so it you could explain that it would be great. And i dont have the subs hooked up right now, but the wires are not touching, i checked, not sure if having the wires loose could do something though. THanks for the help, let me know specifically what else you need to know and i'll post it.

How would i got about finding a bad ground?????? Not really familiar with stereo systems if ya cant tell

I pulled out the CD player to check all the connections behind it. I saw that the ground wire was not running to anything, tried to ground it somewhere but got nowhere. I also saw that the power antenna wire was not going to anything and that hasnt been working for as long as i can remember, but im not sure where i need to connect that wire.

Did you reconnect that ground to a good body ground? It it isn't touching bare metal, it won't work.
