I’ve been trying to get my after market stereo to work in my 96 Eclipse RS, however the previous owners had done some modifications to the wiring harness and none of the diagrams I’ve found are lining up much at all. So just looking for some help to identify what exactly is what.

I know the green/white on the left is illumination and when I touch it to the red on the right it lights up my dash lights, I’d assume these grey/blue wires and yellow/blue are speakers just not sure what ones and why they go from two to one, there’s probably 4 other wires in this harness that also go from two to one using electric tape.

I’m just so confused on where to start when I can’t find a accurate diagram everywhere I read says I should have 2 black wires for the front speakers and two black/white ones

I looked online for the colors to mine, and they make a reverse wiring harness to put it back to stock. Mine was also cut up by the previous owner.
Do you know what I would have to search to find it or is it easier to cut one from a junkyard I’m looking online and I’m not finding anything

I may have some old pictures, I'll look. I believe 95 and 96 have different harnesses from 97 to 99.

I found this.

Grab a 9v battery and start touching like colored wires (green and green with a stripes, etc) with one on positive and one on negative. If it goes to a speaker, the speaker will "crackle" when voltage is applied. That is a way to find out which wires go to which speakers. As for power, ground and accessory, you can find those after eliminating the speaker wires or just run your own. :thumb:

These are the diagrams for the basic radio/tape player from my 95 Talon FSM. It should match the RS.

It says at the Radio end of the harness the front speakers wires are White/Blue (LS+), Black/Blue (LS-), White/Red (RS+), Black/Red (RS-). They change colors at connectors B-52 and B-27 which I believe are the pigtales off the speaker and those are interchangable right and left, so it make sense that the colors are the same on both.

Note there doesn't seem to be a ground wire for the radio, I assume it's like the 1G were the mounting bracket grounds the radio. The diagram shows this with the ground symbol just under where it's labeled RADIO.

I’ve tried the 9v battery trick and tried using Steve’s diagrams the best I could I didn’t really come up with much, thinking I’m just going to go to a junk yard cut a old harness and start soddering it in, my amps never been bipassed but it has been pulled out of the car leaving just the connector sitting under the seat should I use a new amp when I finally get that new harness and my radio in

Steve's diagram should be good and Jesse's layout is simple. If the speakers are all blown, they won't crackle, I'm sure you know.

If it had the original factory infinity amp and it's not hooked up you won't get any sound. But by the looks of your harness your car never had the amp because all the speaker wires would be at the amp. I went through this same thing because my amp was toast. If you had the factory amp they make a bypass harness for it. Do you have pictures of under your passenger seat by any chance.

I was curious about that so I did a little research and I guess they made a non amplified infinity system also. The ones in the upper trim models got the premium which has the amplifier and 6x9s in the rear. My guess is someone either ran an amplifier under that seat or someone tried wiring up the factory one. I would be real shocked to see a factory premium system in an rs.

Not currently I will update with one later, I installed brand new front speakers so I know those aren’t blown, and it appears my car did have the factory infinity amp as the harness under the seat has all the speaker wires going to it, thinking that’s why I had no noise with my battery trick either is because like you said if it’s not hooked up I will not get any sound

I got new front ones I know they are good, Jesse’s layout isn’t lining up I don’t have any black or black with white wires at all, I’ve been looking into Steve’s diagram most of the things seem right however when I go to test them nothing wants to crackle, like Jesse said I think it may be because I’m missing the amp, or there’s much more of a mess somewhere that I’m missing thinking maybe pulling the passenger seat and the carpet back and looking for any sketchy stuff, it wouldn’t be my first time finding some ghetto electrical stuff in this car

If you do have the factory amp you should have another plug up by your harness, which I don't see.

Kaleb,
Do yourself a favor and buy a decent digital multimeter- they are pretty cheap. Go ahead and watch a couple of youtubes about how to use it while you wait for it to be delivered. Trust me, you will save yourself hours and hours of frustration. Once you learn how to use the meter to “see” if there are any problems, you will be amazed at how fun electrical systems really are. Without one, you are really just blindly fiddle-farting around and cheating yourself of any definitive electrical diagnosis. Face it, with as old as our cars are, you are going to HAVE to be able troubleshoot electrical systems, or you are going to be spending alot of time on the side of the road.
Cheers.

I was about to say the same thing. This is old school stuff i see people now days where not showed. I call it the "pop" test. Will 100% show what wires are for what speakers, and like you said then the other power, ground, acc, will be easy after speaker wiring is settled. I do not think the RS model had the amp. Did they even have power antenna?

Going to get a multimeter and keep exploring the issue I haven’t gotten anywhere, I work and wrestle I’m still a senior in high school so my schedule is busy thanks for the advice I will continue to update this thread with what I find, here’s the under the seat pic it’s just that harness there

I picked up a multimeter and speaker wires just in case I don’t get anything, none of my windows or locks work except my sunroof so I wouldn’t be surprised if my speakers don’t have power working to them either, I’m going to get it all sorted out myself though as it’s a good learning experience on stuff I don’t understand the best

Ran my own speaker wires and was able to figure out the other 4 wires with Steve’s diagram, one of my doors wasn’t plugged in all the way and that got one of my windows working to(still no power locks), thank you everyone for your help it’s awesome to be able to play music

After looking at the various manuals it seems that the harness under the seat was standard so they wouldn't have to stock multiple but the DIN cable linking the head unit with the amp was separate and added to those cars with the high end radio.

That information isn't shown in the 95 Talon FSM I have but clearly shown in the 98 version. I don't have a 96 FSM so I can't say if it's one of those manual bugs or a build optimization between the time the manual as written to when cars rolled out.
