My 97 talon has the factory infinity 2g amp with infinity stereo. (top)

If i swap in the mitsubishi stereo (bottom), will the stock infinity amp still work?

I'm guessing no, as it's missing one of the plugs that goes to the amp (see back pic)

    anyone know?

Don't know for sure but the plug it's missing (3rd from left in top pic) is for the cable that goes to the amp. Does the bottom radio perhaps have it's own small amp inside? I see they both support a remote CD changer.

If you can't plug the amp into the stereo then the amp wont work because it's not getting power. However, the stereo may be able to power the speakers on its own just fine, I know a new aftermarket one would. I don't know the compatibility between Eclipse and Talon systems though... are you trying to keep the car looking stock?

You do not mention in your post what your reason for swapping out the radio on top in photo with the radio at the bottom. The top radio has a CD player plus Cassette player with the Infinity amp hook up while the bottom radio only has the cassette player. I went with an aftermarket radio to get much better sound. You can buy an adapter that will allow you to retain your infinity amp and all seven speakers .. To better help you could you tell us why the change..
Also you may want to read an article a fellow DSM`er posted ..

Well the mitsu stereo is out, I don't have the code for it and when I use the Mitsubishi code finder site (https://www.mitsubishicars.com/owners/support/radio-code) to try recover it, it doesn't support a Talon VIN, so I just put the infinity stereo in. I wanted the AUX on the other one, but I think I'll try this on the infinity stereo:

I also wanted to add an Aux input and opened up my Infinity radio (same as your top one) but there wasn't any markings on any chips or boards to locate the video's L-out and R-out (which are actually audio signal inputs that go to other board circuitry in that video's Toyota radio). Nor was their any audio input signal labels anywhere on any of the boards in that Infinity radio. If you find them let me know. The Toyota radio in the video is way simpler than and board circuitry doesn't even remotely match our Infinity board circuitry.

Try calling 256 562-0209 which some said will give you the radio security code w/o the VIN (if you have the radio serial and part numbers and talk to the right person nicely).

Erik , I think you would be much better off installing an aftermarket radio . You can get one that has the AUX port plus USB and Bluetooth . A USB 4G stick can carry over a 1000 songs . Plus it would give you hands free Bluetooth to answer your phone while driving . Also if you subscribe to Spotify , what ever you play on there will show up on your radio.. You can by an adapter that will allow you to retain your Infinity amp . If you like that really deep bass like I do , on the aftermarket radio you can send a signal to another amp that will trigger a Subwoofer . Check out this website

He said he just wants a simple hack to support Aux input with what he's got. Sounds like he's not interested in spending the $1000+ (which is what you end up spending when all is said and done) it takes to buy a new radio, a different amp for it, all the necessary adaptors for this, subscription fees, another possible new subwoofer amp and another adaptor for that, wiring changes, etc and all the work involved to do it all, to get all that new stuff (USB, Bluetooth, Spotify, etc). But I could be wrong....

The amp is wired in parallel to the speakers, so using a non-infinity radio should work. As long as the amp stays unplugged, it should work just like a car that never even had it. I don't think the tweeters will work though. Alternatively, you could find an infinity radio out of an early 2g/3000gt that has the tape deck/aux in.
