hey guys just need some advice on first start-up on my new engine build ...i already primed the motor by spinning the oil pump with a drill about 4 days ago and now the engine is back in the car and wired up ...also i have a air cooled oil filter housing with a oil cooler that is empty from when i removed the engine ....should i fill the oil cooler manually before i start the engine so there is not such a long delay in oil getting oil to the engine ...and i know that i have to crank the engine with the MPI fuse remove to spin the oil pump and get the oil moving then re-install the fuse and start her up ...all inputs are welcome thanks in advance fella's :D

I would just start it up, priming the oil pump is all that is needed.. Cranking the motor will not generate any oil pressure through the motor, it just don't spin fast enough! Its also fine to leave the oil cooler empty, cause everything else will get its oil, while it fills up the oil cooler! Then just check your oil level after a few min of idle..

thanks talondave for the advice homie ...i primed the engine for a while before i re-installed it ...i looked through the oil cap and oil was pouring out of the rocker arms ...i will go ahead and start it up :thumb:

what about the breaking in period the shop manual says very light acceleration for the first couple hundred miles ... im just wondering how much miles i have to drive before i can turn up the boost and have normal driving conditions on the new motor ...this is my first time breaking in a new motor just wanna make sure i do it as correct as possible ... :D
