Wow, that's cheap for a pair of gears! How does the machined surface under the gears look like? Also what does the bushing for the converter snout look like?

The bushing looks fine. The machined surface in the case has some light scratches but you can't even feel them. I'm thinking to use some emery cloth to clean up the case and give these gears a whirl. You can see pics of the case and bushing 6 posts up.

I'm adding to this thread because there ended up being more to the issue. Yes the pump was toast but unfortunately it went deeper than that. After replacing the pump gears and re-assembling the transmission, I still had the exact same problem... Trans would not rotate from either side of the input and there was a distinct clunk in the box. At that point I gave up on dealing with the trans myself...

Sent the box out to a trans shop that I work with and had them take a look... turns out the forward drum was snapped in three pieces with the internal gear sheared off, front clutch pack got smoked and metal got sent through the whole unit basically wiping out my freshly rebuild transmission. To this day I don't know what I did wrong but I know what the result was... smoked tranny and $2000.00 + to have someone else rebuild it correctly. Lesson... Know what the fu(k you are doing before you start doing something that could cost you your whole build.

As of now the car is running and driving. I have a basic tune for 15 psi and am working out some small electrical bugs before I start tuning for real power. It took a year and a good chunk of change but I didn't give up and now I'm being rewarded with what is starting to look like one fast focking DSM. I'm going to update the build thread with some more detail and now that I'm back in town for a while you'll see me haunting the forums for tuning info and updates on the progress.

Thanks again to everyone who has chimed in and followed and supported the project. We are on the road and beast power is coming!

Well, im sorry it cost so much but im glad you got it figured out in the end and it wasnt the bottom end of the motor. Actually that may have been cheaper, none the less, you figured it out.

Im leary of rebuilding my auto when i swap for this very reason. I can handle the valve body but all the seals and clutch packs..... im leaving that to a shop. GL w your build.
