So i recently have been driving a car with radio controls on the steering wheel and now that im back in the eclipse i realize that i want them in my car. Are there any options to add radio controls other than the aftermarket ones. Ive seen crutchfield kits and they seem the be the best looking alternative but was hoping someone found a way to port 3g or 4g controls into the 2g.Thanks for any info!

There was a guy on here the other day talking about a steering wheel he bought that had several electrical switches on it and wondering how to hook them up. My suggestion was to find a car that had steering wheel controls and use the clock spring from the donor car. Like a mitsubishi car that does have steering wheel controls.
You might get lucky and have plugs that match up, same mounting points, turn signal return, steering wheel, etc.

Just an idea. Oh a evo X wheel. :hellyeah: Need to find some pics of the clock spring.

I thought about this idea once (my girl friend's Optima has steering wheel controls too) and I started searching. You could try a steering wheel from the last generation Diamante. The picture I'm leaving here is from an '04 Diamante VRX. One day I'll have a wheel from a VRX since it looks like our stock wheels minus the nice silver trimming, which I want for mine.

Even non-VRX's had wheel controls on certain models.

A select few 3g eclipses had a very minimalistic steering wheel audio control setup. It was a pair of buttons on (I believe both sides of) the back of the steering wheel. If that clock spring is interchangeable (I'd imagine some type of compatibility exists because of the amount of 3g steering wheel swaps done) then I could see it happening. I personally like the Evo steering wheel better for our cabins though.

I was just on amazon, looking through double din receivers, and steering wheel controls and they suck, according to people who left reviews.

But a quick Google search , shows that pretty much all newer Mitsubishi have built in controls with appealing steering wheels. If i'm lucky enough to find one of these in a junk yard,i will be the experimenter, i drive a g35 every once in a while and really enjoy the steering controls too.

Good luck finding one for cheap just to play with.
I've seen a bunch of salvage yards thinking a wheel without an airbag is worth over $100. And thats for older model cars that no one even cares about anymore. I've seen evo guys ask over $200 for a used wheel. Then asked if it comes with everything it doesn't, no airbag.
You know all those buttons would probably make them think of adding $10 for each button plus whatever the wheel cost is. :tease:
