Starting problem

Replaced the engine in my 95 talon tsi, and have yet to get it to start fully. Today when I was cranking it, it started for like 5 seconds and idled then died. Now when I try to start it I can hear cylinders firing but. It won't fully turn on. It'll crank for a couple seconds then it will sputter but won't turn on. Any help would be great.

It cranks and everything but won't fully turn over and run off its own power

check your firing order there is 2 differ firing orders try them both--check timing belt verify everything is set correctly

I tried one firing order like a week ago and that didn't work, and I tried the other and it worked a lot better. Timing belt is good and timing is good

So I pulled the plugs and 3 outta 4 are wet and are kinda black on the ends. And in the cylinders of the wet ones it looks like there's stuff on the top of the Pistons ? I'll post pics with this post and tell me what you guys think. I couldn't get a very good angle on the top of the piston

I don't know how to check if the fuel injectors are firing

know that you have to listen if it fires with a long screwdriver or something while the car is running, but the car wont run so I can't really do that

pull all plugs and run wire around the threads all to ground, pull fuse for fuel pump, have someone crankover car while u watch plugs (caustion dont touch any metal on car or may get shocked) this is a cheap easy way to check

for injectors a noid light is easiest way to confirm

I think I have a noid light somewhere. I'll check tomorrow and test the fuel injectors. I'll let you know

Is the car on ECMLink or the stock computer or a different stand alone setup?

I'm an old shade tree man myself.....( why did you warn against any possible "shock" ), at least you know its firing!!
If it's on Link, I am sure some of us can get it started and running.

OP, try some starting fluid sprayed into the intake and see if it wants to come to life for a few seconds. Since the plugs are wet, I believe there is a spark issue. If the injectors weren't working, the fuel wouldn't be on the plugs (I hope it was fuel, did you smell it?).

if it is flooding out there is also another "trick" to help clear it out -hold the gas pedal to the floor and the injectors should cut off while cranking

but still curious to the spark plug test

I'll test the spark plugs when I get home

And yes I smelled it and it was fuel.

Well my battery charger stopped working so I can't test the spark plugs right now till I get the battery charged
