I just bought a 92 talon tsi with a lot of upgrades (or so the guy says) he can get it started but I can't. There is a connecter on the top of the solinoid of the starter he showed me that you need to adjust to start it if it stalls or hits a big bump or something. He knows what needs to be done to get it started but I can't get it. Would be helpful if the guy I bought it from would pick up my calls or texts and I think I got played alittle. It also over heated. Didn't even get it 5 miles away from his house and I can't start it and it over heated. I turned it off to get gas and I can't get it to turn it back on called him to ask how to get it back on and no answer. Go back to his house (or what I thought was his house) and no one was there. Had to get it towed home and still can't get it to turn on. I'm thinking the starter could be bad but he got it started every time. Showed me if it stalls or something what to do. He was also saying something about a nutral saftey switch is what makes it not start but I can't feel or see a nss there. Is there a nss near the starter? I'm just so pissed that I bought it driving it with him its fine then when I leave it takes a crap on me not even 5 mins away. Thanks for looking at this post and if anyone could help would be great. I just got it don't know to much about it and it may be kinda vage what I'm saying but can't hurt to ask right.

mine did the same thing mine is a 93 talon es and all i had to do was put a new starter on it and it was fine. as for the rest i havent the slightest idea.

Assuming you have an AT (since you used the word neutral) without factory alarm, the inhibiter switch (aka nss) is on the shifter. It has 2 black-yellow wires on it and he may be shorting them together (or perhaps jiggling/pulling on them if the switch is intermittent) while turning key to start. The starter solenoid is on the starter which is behind the engine and nearly impossible to get at without a very long reach (through a maze of stuff) under the hood or from under the engine rear. If you don't have AT w/o factory alarm let me know what you have.

clean terminals and make sure they ar tight get a volt meter and check the lead coming from the battery to the solenoid with dc should be 11-13v then check the the test the lead going to the solenoid to trip it make sure it has power to do that have a friend try to turn over the car when doing this to make sure it has power. then test the outgoing lead of the solenoid to the starter have your buddy try to turn it over if it has no power then you have a bad solenoid if it makes a click and has power to the starter then the starter is out . one quick way to do it is just get a wire and hook it to the positive battery terminal an quickly touch the hot wire to the starter lead. if noting happens you need a new starter

It is a manual trany. Yeah I didn't thing a nss would be near or on the trany. I'm a big jeep guy and there nss is on the side of the trany witch if anything I was thinking on the talon it would be on the trany. Solinode dose click but won't start. Like I said tho he did something on the starter and can get it to turn on right away I can't figure or what he did.

So he reaches down to the starter and does something - like wiggle a wire? Then raise front of car and crawl under and check the tightness of the small and large cables going to the starter. If ok do what couch says.

The switch from ignition is bad. I think what he is doing is manually bypassing. G the switch and touching the switch and power together to get it on. Basically a small wire from switch on starter to battery cable on starter will bypass switch and turn over car.

He reached down behind the motor where the starter is and he is not just jumping it out causze still start it inside the car. He even took my hand and showed me what he was adjusting. Its the connector on the solinode on top of the starter. I just don't know what he did. Like I said dude I bought it from won't pick up any of my calls or texts so I can't even ask him anything. I think I bought a bad car. Worked fine when I was test driving it with him but after I bought it and went to drive it home it overheated I turned it off and couldn't get it back started. I can't take a look at it right now also because I'm in nj and we are getting hit by hurracain sandy right now

Ok so the connector on the starter solenoid is loose and he wiggles it. I'm surprised more people don't have this problem because I've noticed it loose often, even on mine. It's a terrible quality connector. It easily gets clogged with mud as it is not protected from it like other connectors are. You can try just cleaning it and the spade terminal it attaches to and that may be enough. If not you'll have to put on a new terminal.

I put a new connector on the wire and also took the battary to get tested and it was bad. Bought a new battory and turns on and off just fine now. Now my prob is if I rev it to like 6 7 grand when it comes down to idle it wants to stall and some time dose stall. I'm thinking maybe timing is alittle off or not getting enough gas as it comes to an idle.

Glad you got the starting issue taken care of. What exactly are these "upgrades" that the car has? Are you running the stock fuel system?

From what the guy told me its has a 4 bolt rear upgraded tcase motor is rebuilt with forged internals head had a 5 agnle job on it port and polish has aftermake cams aftermarket fuel system evo turbo the bov is on the intake pipe. Short throw shifter lowered 3 inches (needs front shocks they are completely dead) v3 tune there's a turbo timer gotta figure out what that dose (this is my first turbo car been reading about how turbo kits work) aftermarket headers to what looks like 3 inch full exhust back prob some more things I can't think of or don't know about. Is there a way I can post pictures on here I got a few to show you guys

If I did this right here is the motor

Also battory is also relocated to the trunk and its a push button for the starter there's no key. And I'm still having prob getting it to start now its back doing the same thing as it was. I'm thinking about taking the stater out and getting it tested to see if its good.
