i need some help from the top side of the car looking down to the intake manifold where the starter is. which wire needs to be the hot wire on the starter, the one closest to the firwall or the one closest to the block?

there is no ground wire. its hot directly from the battery. thats why it has a rubber protector boot on it covering up the 12v live post/nut/wire. the bigger wire (batt. cable) goes to the bigger post. the spade style post. (the litte one, and its black in the picture above) is what gives it signal when you turn the key from on to start.

yeah i see that the negitive wire bolts to the tranny where the starter is as well. thats where i was confused

the ground wire off of the negative battery post just goes down and bolts to the bellhousing of the tranny where its mated to the engine. the factory location of this ground cable is into the upper starter bolt. (which makes the negative side of the battery ground the engine) it could go into any bellhousng bolt and it would work the same. there is no signifigance to it using the bellhousing/starter bolt

on the alternator, is the hot wire suppose to be on top or bottom?
