2G Stand alone harness for 420A Dirt Car

Hello everyone,
My name is Greg Yarber. As you see I’m my profile I’ve been around a while. However, I am new to the Eclipse world. My youngest daughter Addie dirt track races with me and she drives a 99 GS.
We recently have experienced issues with fire to the coil. The wire harness in the car was jacked up by the previous owner. I was hoping for some help in the direction of a stand alone harness for her car.
If anyone has suggestion please pm or answer to thread.

I made the assumption that this didn't start out off life as a Spyder with a 4G64 engine but as a Coupe with a Chrysler 420A 2.0L engine. Is that true?

Another assumption I'm going to make it that you want to keep the factory ECU and build a new "standalone" engine harness, not replace the ECU with a standalone like the MegaSquirt.

Do you have a good copy of the 99 2G FSM?

I don’t have a copy of the FSM, but I’m not apposed to a mega squirt system. It appears they are back ordered or I’m missing a step to request a quote.
We just need to get it up and running with as much power as possible with our engine setup.

The 420A section scans aren't great but they are better than nothing.

I know this isn't anything to do with the wiring harness and I'm not sure what your experience level is with circle track racing so this may/may not be helpful, but if you are at a track where 2nd gear runs you into the rev limiter before the corner and the car bogs in 3rd you may be able to swap to a neon transmission with 3.55 final drive gears and be able to run in 2nd then.

Generally neon transmissions are good for 1/4 mile and some 1/3 mile tracks. If you are at a 3/8 mile track or a high banked 1/3 mile track you'll probably want to stick with the factory eclipse transmission.

The 3.55 transmission you'd want is found in 2000 & newer Neons unless it has the magnum engine.

I don’t know what all parts will swap into the GS.
I try to control the power band with tire size.
However, my back up Eclipse needs a transmission.
Would you by any chance know which transmissions come with LSD units?

The 420a Eclipse is pretty much it's own design. Almost nothing will swap from a 4g63 Eclipse except some suspension parts and body panels. Neon engines are the same bottom end (SOHC have lower compression pistons. DOHC is exactly the same short block). Neon cylinder heads are completely different. The valves, springs, and guides are about the only thing the could be swapped.

Neon transmissions will swap on all years but if you get a 95-99 you have to change the bellhousing because the neon used a cable clutch for those years and the Eclipse uses a hydraulic system. You can also use the transmission from a PT Cruiser. Gearing wise the PT cruiser is almost exactly the same as the Eclipse and they bolt right in.

None of the Neons or Eclipses came from the factory with limited slip to my knowledge.

Your only option to buy new is the MPx. You may be able to find a used Quaife but expect to pay about the same as the MPx. There are knock off Quaife's that used to be made by OBX but they were a poor knock off and had a lot of issues so I would steer clear of those.

It looks like you can still purchase a new Quaife LSD. The one I purchased years ago has a part number QDF3I
When I searched Google I found multiple vendors claiming to have then in stock. That may not actually be the case, but how it looks. And damn, these things are being sold for $200 more than I paid at the time. Going with a used unit might actually be a decent option just for the sake of cost.

I had looked at aftermarket first. I was wondering which or if any 95-99 Eclipse came with a LSD.

The Phantom Grip are a total rip off. They sell the same thing for 30ish bucks on eBay. Its just metal plates with springs. Its nowhere near an actual LSD. A real LSD uses some type of cam mechanism to keep power going to both tires. I would just weld the spider gears before spending almost 400 bucks on any of the Phantom Grip stuff.

First link I post below is the products page, second link is some basic technical info. It does not appear to be out of stock (MS3 I'm referring to). Maybe it was a plug and play kit you were looking for, but those cost twice as much anyway. All you need from them is the ECU and the tuning cable. You can make a wiring harness from scratch and that is the easiest way in my opinion. I can walk you through the wiring, initial setup, and the actual tuning process.

I noticed you're also in Alabama. Ever race the car at the Talladega dirt ring? I've been there a couple times in the past but not recently. I'd go back to see an Eclipse .

Ok I’ll check them out with that respect.
I was running in Moulton last Sunday when it lost fire; was leading the race also. I got ran over when it went dead.
I’ll share a video is I can figure out how, but we can bring to Dega when. It’s right.
