I'm new to DSM's and have only been working on mine for a month now, but I have had previous experience with SSAutoChrome headers. I put them on my '91 Sentra SE-R because they were simply the best bang for the buck, especially for NA. The only header I really comparred the ssa to was the pacesetter, and people always had problems with the paint "burning" off of them. So if anyone ever bought one they'd always have to sand them down and repaint them with high-temp paint before ever installing them. Too much of a pita for me, so I just bought the stainless header from ssa.
When I got the ssa header, the welds looked solid and consistent. The biggest problem that I had was that at every junction of pipe to flange, the pipe was always bigger, and would always abruptly step down in size to the hole in the flange. Sh*t! But after spending quite a few hours with the Dremel and a tungsten carbide cutter bit, I got everything to smooth out enough so it wouldn't choke the flow.
The ssa header was one of the last pieces that I put on my car after putting on a K&N FIPK, iridium plugs, mag wires, advanced timing w/ 93 oct, UR 2-pulley set, lightened flywheel with ACT clutch kit, ES motor mount inserts, and a Nismo thermostat. The SSAutoChrome header was By Far the biggest power adder of any of the previous mods. And IMO it's hard to get any good gains on an NA engine.
Almost a year later, the stainless steel wasn't so stainless, don't know if that's normal, but it was still maybe at 50%. $170 shipped for a header was the greatest bang for the buck mod that I ever got in that car, and just yesterday I didn't hesitate to buy one of the SSAutoChrome o2 housings when I saw them on Ebay. I didn't bat an eylash spending just over $100 shipped for one, and I'm sure it'll flow more than my stock unported 1g o2 housing, and I probably won't have to touch it again for as long as I own my DSM.
I hope I don't burst into flames for saying something good about SSAutoChrome and writing a long post!
