on race fuel? or pump

that was race gas. erc 118 leaded. the car shoulda ran a faster time, but seeing as it was my first time out, and my tranny is starting to go out...i was fairly satisfied with this time. that was on the stock im and tb too. since then i have a Full Function 75mm TB and Intake Manifold, so I'm making power up to 8.5k whereas before I was shifting at 7.5k.

It may work, and bigger isn't always better guys.

Your cores may be getting the job done, but how efficient are they. I was in the same mind set as you guys before.

I now have experience first hand with four different 4" thick garrett cores. I will never go smaller or with another make. The IAT read outs we get back from AEM and Dsmlink have changed my mind for ever. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Just a little info for you guys from David Buschur

I've been asking about these specifically made for a 2g for a while now and nobody makes the Garrett 4" core kits for the 2g. Shearer fab only makes them if you are local, and buschur site gives you the 24X11X3.5 for the 2g instead of the 24X13X4 1g or evo race core. :(

I don't recall right off hand what cores ETS uses, maybe Tom can chime in if he sees this. But, we have a 24x12x4 core on our 2G that they designed for us nearly three years ago now. It was kind of my own spin on things. It has cast end tanks and 3" intercooler piping. It is based off of their race 2G kit. AEM reports some very nice numbers from the AIT sensor.

Another option. I actually designed another for my mirage(now on my colt). It is 16x12x4. I cut out some card board, put all the specs I wanted on it, made a few calls and two weeks later the ETS guys sent EXACTLY what I needed. That car made just over 500whp on a completely stock engine basically without sneezing.

These intercoolers are actually very efficient. The pressure drop is very minimal and the cool VERY well. I have seen them on numerous setups on the DYNO and the intake side barely even gets warm after several pulls. A few of the guys I am speaking of have AEM IAT logs, but I personally do not.

If you want to pay $$$$ for an FMIC, go ahead, but this intercooler was $250 and has seen some high HP and good ETs over the past few years.

Lets not turn this into an SSAC FMIC bashing thread. Lets stay on subject. I have one of the 1g kits and was very impressed, for $150 you cant go wrong.

Why don't you let the moderators do their job. There was no bashing in my post. I just asked how efficient they were. They probably do a decent job. I linked some information from the Buschur Racing site. That is all. It states the temperature increase for the ebay stuff in there. No knocking, just trying to spread more good information.

The main reason behind my post however, was that there are plenty of folks out there who autocross and road race their cars. For drag racers like myself, a less efficient setup might not be a big deal. But for say Chris Raymond(ludachris) he chose something that could withstand 30 minute lap sessions and perform as asked.

Again, there was no bashing. I just want future users and potential buyers to see the information others have laid out for them and decide that if there are any sacrafices to be made, should THEY make them for THEIR cars. There is plenty of information out there on the ebay and home made stuff working well on all types of platforms. Not just diamond stars.

So just research gentlemen and decide if something like this product will help you reach your goals. Mod smart, mod once. Just hate to see guys waste their money EITHER way if something is over kill, or just enough, or close enough.

I just didnt want it to turn into a bashing thread. He asked for ET times not for someone to post why its not as efficient as the name brand cores. I thought it was a good post because I like to see these cheap kits make good numbers. Proves you dont have to spend tons of money for good performance.

Anyways if you are racing your car I think you have a little more money to spend than someone just looking for a cheap FMIC kit.

But yes you are correct, giving the most info is the best way for someone to choose what they really need.
