spyder roll cage??

It would have to be a custom cage. Our roof line is much differnet from a coupe.

It's highly doubtful it will offer any protection and it will pass NHRA certification nor is it street legal and insurances tend to drop clients that have roll cages.

It is a lost cause on all terms; you won't be able to go to tracks and you'll end up getting tickets left and right. It's a huge waste of money to even consider the $1000 for the fabrication.
 
There are so many cars and trucks driving the streets fully caged in socal and none of my friends with cages have been ticketed for them. On the other hand, it's extremely unsafe to drive the streets in a caged vehicle with out a helmet (head trama in accident).

Over in NorCal you get tickets if you have a roll cage or the cops will strongly target you for other tickets they can tag on because they know you'll race. That's why I don't even think about having a roll cage in my car which can easily be running 9s.
 
Amen of that, I just don't understand why a convertible would need a roll cage! If you go as far as roll cage then it's not a DD and you shouldn't even have a convertible auto-x or drag car. But if the OP is just going for looks then why does he care about the protection. He could just fabricate a roll cage just by whatever looks cool.

Tell that to gixxerdrew. His convertible is tearing it up on the track. You can make anything fast enough to require/need a cage and you can modify and race whichever car you choose. Who are you to say you shouldn't race a convertible.
 
Yes, Shame on Safety and Chassis stiffness. Who needs a roll cage? Obviously they have NO benefits and and they are purely for looks.

Seriously Guys - a roll cage isn't for a fashion statement. They serve a purpose.

1. To PROTECT THE DRIVER IN CASE OF A ROLL OVER. <-- Guess that would have been OBVIOUS.
2. Additional Chassis STIFFNESS. Linking multiple points to the car will help keep the body rigid. This is crucial for helping in corners.

Not to mention that on CONVERTIBLES, the LACK of a top, the engineers provide ADDITIONAL Chassis Braces that make them even more race car-like than a Coupe. That is why convertibles are typically a few hundred pounds HEAVIER than a hard top. This actually makes them perform BETTER in auto x.

Use your head sometimes.
