Like the title says, I think my rod bearing is spun. I've pulled the transmission thinking it was the clutch, TOB, or flywheel. It turned out that everything checked out. I'm pretty sure it did anyways. It didn't used to make that noise at idle but after a few days now it does. I have 264/272 cams, Eagle rods, Forged Pistions, and many more if that helps any. Thanks in advance.

Hard to tell from the video but that doesn't sound like a bearing. That's too deep of a "thunk"

What side of the engine is it coming from? Passenger it seems?

As far as I know yes. The previous owner said so anyways. I believe him because of the vibration inside the car. It has poly mounts also. I did do plenty and plenty of reading on this. I went though many threads from many different websites and it either turned out to be spun rod bearing or balance shafts. But any of the videos/Threads I seen did not have the same symptoms as mine. My does it ALL the time. Doesn't matter if driving, idling or pushing the clutch in. its ALL THE TIME.

Also when I push the clutch in it drops 100-150 RPM's I checked the crank play and I can't even notice it moving.

Do you still have balance shafts?

Pop your oil fill cap and see if the noise gets louder.

I actually did that and it did not get louder.

I would guess balance shaft bearing. If it was a rod bearing you could rev it to 2k rpm and it should knock more noticeably. Yours just sounds weird. if you think it did spin a bearing dont run it too long because you starving the rest of the engine of oil due to the excessive clearance.

If your's is doing the same, then we can rule out the transfer case IF you actually have the same problem.

yeah!! my just start doing it during a right turn, beside i live in batesville for 4 years how is everything going over there! hopefully i have some chance to open the oil pan tomorrow, don't even try to started anymore bro :tease:

Everything is good here in batesville. Getting a water park! LOL

Anybody else got any opinions? I'm going to check the balance shaft bearings as soon as I get time, unless someone knows for sure on whats going on.

Id day balance shafts if you still have them, last motor I heard knock was more of a, clack clack clack, this sounds different indeed, mine just recently had a clicking noise resulting in the input shaft bearing being shot, doesn't hurt to get the trans checked, I've had a motor knock and sound ed a lot worse than that.

I am going to have to toss my vote for a spun BS bearing, As a guess, since it is worse now, that the bearing is fully out of the block, and the BS is now beating around in the bearing housing bore.

Time to drop the oil pan and look up.

Seems there is a rash of spun BS bearings, this is about the 3 or 4 post this month.

take your belts off and see if you still have the noise

another thing is does the noise change when you push the clutch down .

The noise does not change nor does it goes away when pressing the clutch pedal to the floor. I'm going to drop the pan tonight after work and take some pictures. Hopefully something simple.

It will not be simple. Spun BS bearing or spun rod bearing.

The engine will come out and have to be fully disassembled and clean of all the metal flake thats in the entire oiling system.

If it is a spun BS bearing, the repair is just cheaper. The work is the same.
