I was driving normally going about 45mph and out of nowhere my speedo started making lots of noise and jumped up to around 130mph. It started bouncing around rapidly in the range of ~100mph-max. I did not see any pattern or immediate relation to any other gages/throttle/tach. From what I can tell all other gages work fine still and the speedometer works correctly up until about 35mph before it starts jumping around again. Any help, advice, and ideas are appreciated

My first thought is the speed sensor.

But I think it would really help if we knew what vehicle you have. Try making a DSM profile.

Unscrew the speedometer cable at the transmission. Pull the center cable out and lube it with wheel bearing grease and thread it back into the cable, up to the speedometer head. You may have to spin it a bit to get it to go back into the speedometer as most have a square head that goes into the head unit. We did this back in the 70's and 80's for the same problems on multiple cars. This usually fixes them if they are completely mechanical, which yours should be if its a 1g.
Good luck!

Get with it Solomon.........:p
A profile would be a handy thing for the OP to work on for sure!

Just teasin ya man!!!

You got a YouTube video on where to find the speed sensor?! Also mine works sometimes just bought the car recently and drove it home with the speedometer at 0 the whole time.

#12 in this diagram. The cable from the gauge attaches to it.
