I know that the second generation eclipse GSX & GS-T go like 130-140 mph. I was wondering what it would take to go 160-180 mph or in a GSX or GS-T. What kind of horsepower would you need to be making and what kind of modifications would it take.

actually its not all hp what you could do is strip the car so its a lot lighter and do i would say the stage 1 and sum of the stage 2 mods and you sould be good. also it may help goin down hill and an infinite straight away on a cold day.

I'm not old enough yet to drive(in less than a year) so I am trying to learn as much as I can because I didn't grow up around cars. But back to topic. What do you mean gears? What the transmission gears. So it wouldn't hurt to get different transmission gears to go around or faster than the mph speeds I asked about.

you will NEVER need to go faster then the car can from the factory as far as top speed

So very true, especially at age 16. Well unless you're looking to die quick or get your car taken away.

when they talk about gears.... the final gear ratio (ie 5th) will limit how fast you can go (basically redline limited).

ever been in a crx hf? at 70mph they are only at like 2000rpm, so in theory (not taking into account other factors at all) with more power the hf crx could hit a big top speed.

to answer your question though you would want to lower you car... decreases wind resistance among other things....

in all reality though driving that fast on normal roads is idiotic - the roads we have (as well as supensions) are not designed for top speed runs. I have driven about 135 on a public freeway in my stock escort gt and looking back this was just stupid (i am 20 now). You have about 50x less control over car once you get above 100 (just from my own personal experience).

I cannot stop you from going out and driving like a jackass - that is up to you, but i will say this - if you are going to try something stupid like going 150 on a country road do it with NO ONE AROUND . Do not take any friends with you - you can take your own life in your own hands if you want to but do not threaten theirs.

I don't want to see anyone die, whether that be you or anyone else - so learn something fast once you start driving -

if you're going to push the limits - don't do it in such a way where there is a chance that you would kill yourself or anyone else

that's it for now

Weight has no effect on top speed at all, only on acceleration.

At 7000 rpm in an AWD car, you will max out around 155 mph in fifth gear. If you can take the car up to ~7500 rpm, you'll be able to get up to around 165-170mph.

With about 300 whp, 160mph is definately doable.

Thats what I have heard as well Kyle. Usually just over 160 at off the rev. My car had no problems cruising at 140 without breaking a sweat and I was putting about about 335hp at the time.

People are right though. Don't drive stupid. If you don't have the tire, suspension and other supporting mods to not only support going that fast but being able to slow down as well. If you try and slam the stock brakes on at 150mph your going to toast your rotors and glaze your pads which will make stopping fun all together. Remember it's not going fast that kills people but rather it's the sudden stop when you hit something that does.

TRE does make a top gear that is supposed to be able to clear 200mph. The key at that point is going to be fighting things like drag, downforce, and have the open road to do it.

Drive safe

Oh no, a new 16-year old driver wants to go 180mph...glad I don't live in pennsylvania.

I remember there was some board where some kid was talking about trying to see how fast he could go and he was going to go back out again the next night to try it again. It might have been here (there's a bad no0b:vet ratio here), but a couple days later, someone posted the newspaper article about how he lost it and killed himself. Personally, I have no sympathy for morons who want to drive like that on a city street. If you cant wait to get your license so you can get your car to 180 on a public road, then I suggest you go play on the highway. Furthermore, someone should fine your parents for raising an idiot. Have a nice day stupid. :D

I'm 17 and I've got an '02 v6 Stock Camaro LOL... two nights ago I wanted to see how fast the thing will go (before I put it up for sale next week) so I took it on the interstate at about 2 in the morning and just went off on it. But the POS's speedometer only goes to 125 (rofl) and when I hit 120, that bi*** wasn't likin it. Plus the fact that my driver side front tire has like negative tread on it doesn't help. But if I didn't hold the wheel tight as I could, i'd start swerving pretty bad. And that's at 120. But stock v6 Camaros suck, so I guess that's different. The point to that story was, I later realized had my right tire decided to give up on me, it could have blown and at that speed sent me into the median/concrete wall thing... and I may not be posting here today.

If you wanna go 180 dude that's phat, just think it through first. And, don't wait until something makes you stop to do so. Once you hit your desired mph (if it's 180 youre nuts) start slowing down before you think you have to. Don't wait until it's too late.

And stop watching the Fast and the Furious bro. You're not Paul Walker. :p

I like how that kid's username is death... have you guys learned foreshadowing in English as a freshman? :p ;)

This is hilarious. A kid not even 16 who doesn't know anything about cars wants to hit top speed in a DSM?!? Your gonna lose your license before you even learn how to drive squirt.

Me thinks a trip to the Salt flats is in store for you. 180mph is exteeme. What % of the human population has driven at 180? like 1%? It would take a VERY long straight road. And I hope you have BIG brakes, or at least new rotors/pads. If anything goes wrong at 180, your shits done.

Wanna go 180 buy a bike...or a vette. :thumb: I honestly could not even think of anywhere I live I could hit 180 even if I was dumb enough to try.

I think they actually said on a show about the salt flats that when you start pushing 200mph hitting the brakes will do nothing but glaze them over and make them useless.

When you find a TRACK that allows you to get up to 150 or so in your car, let me know. I want to go there. :thumb:

And the story you're thinking about is when this kid came in and asked about removing the governor from his gs-t. Few days later, someone comes on and posts a news article about a kid in a gs-t losing control at high speed and dieing. Not fun .

I remember a thread many months back about some jackass young kid who didnt even have his liscense yet got caught by his dad taking the 2g talon up and down the street doing burnouts. I ragged on him about how he drove and he tries to act like he will be a good driver. :shhh:

After you get your licence, get on a highway at night, and slowly push the limits. Dont just go out and floor it. Do 90mph, then 100mph, and so on. You will learn that the faster you go, the more you car is going to react to a little move of the steering wheel. Just learn how to drive before you want to push the limits. Don't only make sure you have enough room to accelerate, make sure you have PLENTY of room to stop. You dont realize how bad your brakes really are until you get about 65mph. I went on my first drive on the freeway 2 days ago and i realized how rudimentary my brakes are above 80MPH. please be safe.

Hey I'm not ever planning on going that fast on the roads. All I was wondering is what it would take to get a dsm to go that fast. It was just a question that came into my head. But like I said I don't plan on even going those speeds. I just plan on going to a track(like a drag strip). I even know it would be stupid and crazy to be driving those speeds. It only takes a split second for something to go wrong. :| Yeah........boom...your life will be sh*tty or be over :thumbdown That would suck.
