Just trying to figure out how to go about installing my manual transmission to the engine. Do you have to match up the clutch and flywheel? Then just torque the bolts to the block? I will be having both the transmission and the block outside the car to do this.

before bolt trans to motor you need to put clutch on block put pilot shaft threw clutch to line up clutch and crank then torque down bolts then remove pilot shaft and put motor and trans together

Do you have a clutch alignment tool? This would make your life much easier. Is your engine on a stand or how are yoy going about it?

I think I might have the clutch alignment tool, the guy at the clutch shop gave me a tool with the new clutch.

I was going to pull the engine and the trans at the same time, and lower it onto this.strong table I built for it. Was going to separate the trans from the block and when the block is ready I was going to install everything on the same table.

Ever hear of a period or run on sentence?

Check out Vfaq.com, theres a how to guide.

I checked the vfaq in the drivetrain section, didn't see anything though.

Well since you have it out of the car, just use the clutch tool to center the disk in the pressure plate. Torque bolts and remove tool. Then line up the tranny with the alignment dowels on the block. I like to start a longer bolt on the top 2 holes on block, then i wiggle the tranny until it slips into place. Dont forget your starter plate! It should be installed before the flywheel.

So with the transmission seperated, there's the clutch disc and the pressure plate which are both inside the transmission. The pressure plate lines up with the clutch disc through the center hole? How exactly?

What about the flywheel? Does it match up to the clutch disc?

The flywheel bolts to the crankshaft
The pressure plate bolts to the flywheel with the clutch disk in-between them. It is lined up with the clutch aliment tool through the center hole.
the transmission bolts to the block, with the bell housing covering the clutch assembly. The clutch assembly is not actually "inside" the transmission, it is covered by the transmission's bell housing.

How the clutch assembly attaches to the flywheel.

Clutch alignment tool. Slide this through the pressure plate, clutch disk, and flywheel to line everything up and then bolt the pressure plate to the flywheel.

This is what it looks like bolted to the flywheel. Then the transmission is bolted to the block with the bell housing inclosing the clutch assembly.

Great information!

Is there a reason why the sleve cylinder has to come off when removing the transmission?

The slave is attached to hard lines that are connected to the frame of the car. Either you disconnect the hydraulic lines to the slave cylinder and leave it on the transmission (and bleed the lines later), or unbolt the cylinder from the transmission, leaving the lines intact.

How about the master cylinder? does it stay?

Does the clutch release bearing and the clutch release fork stay inside the transmission? Or will it come loose when I pull the trans. from the block?

The master cylinder is bolted to the firewall and can stay, unlike the slave which is bolted to the transmission.

You don't have to worry about the release bearing or fork falling out when removing the transmission.

ya there is alot to do befor you but ## tranny on yes u have to line up ## flywhen clutch and presser plat then bolt them down then you can put the tranny on

removing the two bolt holding the slave is the better method, so your not getting a bunch of air in the lines and fluid all over.

Its a good idea to bleed it regardless and of course adjust the clutch after installation.
