I think my t-belt tensioner is going. There's is a light sqeaking noise metal on metal. not the belts coming from the belts area. I put my ear next to the power steering pump and it almost sounds like its comeing from there. Its goes up with rpm. And sometimes it goes away when it gets warm operating temp. Its always there when you first start it. A friend said it could be the tensioner. But it is brand new 3,000 miles ago along with the hole bottom end. The upper timing belt cover is also not on the motor and BS are removed. Checking to see if there is any specific noise of a going TB tensioner.

thanks

when my t-belt tensioner went bad it made a louder metal clicking sounds that came and went, it usually quit making noise above 3k rpm. hope this helps

I believe it can definitely throw your timing off once it gets too bad. It is usually a ticking noise though and quits around the 3k rpm range as stated above. If you have access to a stethescope and easy way to tell is to put it on the timing case and see what you hear. A partial broomstick can also work. Good luck.

if the tensioner goes bad what could happen? will it just sieze up and not spin or will it fall apart??

Tensioner, not idler....
When the tensioner goes, you can hear the slack t-belt whack the cover when you rev the motor. shortly after that, you skip time and crash your valves.
Get it looked at.

the hydraulic tensoiner as mentioned above will make a loud clanking sound until 3k..

and yes discontinue driving immediatly and fix it. mine did it for one day and jumped time when I shut it off that night! good bye exhaust valves

I have a video of mine making a noise too. It stops once you get above 3k rpm. Check it out and tell me if it sounds familiar. Ill be replacing the timing belt, pulleys, tensioners, balance shaft belt and waterpump in about a week and ill let you guys know what it was, but what it sounds to me it could be that tensioner about to go.

OK i have narrowed it down to the power steering pump. The sound doesn't sound anything like that. It's alot quieter. After looking at the pump. It's not centered so i think the bearing inside went or is going. I have some bigger problems right now with the external oil cooler leaking. I'm gonna undo the belt and see if the noise goes away
