There's a video of the sound its making.... Had the valve cover off this morning and everything looked okay? Some metal shavings in pan but not anything crazy. I know lifters are a common issue so if y'all think that's the problem a link to a good set of lifters and springs would be great.

Doesnt sound like lifters to me, it sounds more like something under the timing cover, possibly even a bad tensioner or a pulley thats coming loose. Might also be an exhaust manifold leak, at worst its a bearing.

It sounds like its coming from under the valve cover. I had the timing cover off in the video. It seems to go away when I idle the car up but it makes this noise at an idle and just started yesterday. The sounds comes and goes.

That is not lifter tick. I will agree checking timing components first. ANY metal shavings in the oil pan is not good. You may also want to pull the pan and check the condition of your bearings.

Clacking like that from the top end would lead me to first check if it's a HLA that won't stay in extended position, requiring higher oil pressure to stay pumped and against the rocker. That's just the first thing I would check, mind you. Did you try and push all the HLAs down when you had the valve cover off, or see if there's any movement in them?

Metal bits are not generally good in any number, unless you can identify that it might be casting flash that finally let go. Shavings would either be bearing material or from the oil pump usually. Any sound as a result of excessive wear on the above would be lower down, though, and not centralized in the head if that's where you think it's from.

If it comes and goes, keep an eye on what temp and pressure it comes and see if there's a consistent correlation.

It only does it at low rpm and low oil pressure. Checking the timing will be my next venture I suppose. It sounds terrible and it doesn't wanna stay running and its becoming hard to start. Sounding more like timing in my opinion but I don't know a whole lot LOL. And what is HLA?

I would bet that it is a failing timing belt tensioner. How long has it been since the timing belt was done? If it's been a while, or you don't know it's time to do it now. Most likely that is your problem. Idle is when a bad tensioner likes to make the most noise from my experience.

Well, I adjusted the cps and the knock stopped . But now my coolant temp gauge is pegged beyond hot and the car is still running normal, fans kick on normal and off. No cel or any lights. I'm so confused. Timing belt and tensioners were done supposedly less then 1000 miles ago when I bought the car but don't have any valid proof. The belt looks good and its got good tension but I can't bank on someone's word when I have no proof on paper. Guess its time to buy a timing belt and the tensioners and start there???

Its not a steady knock when it happens. It goes in and out and stops and starts. Got the ground back on the temp gauge and its reading normal again. Gonna go for a short drive around the block and come back and let it idle and see what's gonna happen

CAS. Sorry. But , I'm about to upload another video with better sound. Idk what's going on. Car feels like it loads up and is really sluggish. I'm guessing timing issue but I don't even know where to start to fix that

My buddies we bought for 600 had similar noise. But much louder because it's all 4 Pistons slapping the valves ever so slightly, ran it for an hour and then it stopped running. And wouldn't start. Take head off and and all 4 Pistons had valve gouges all over. It sat for 3 years , and had timing job done just before it sat, cause was bad tensioner and timing cover rubbing on the lower parts.

So I've come to the conclusion that its the rear balance shaft bearing. Anyone in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area that would be willing to come down on a weekend and help me get this fixed???
