I know Its been beaten pretty well to death but I couldnt find an answer.

There is a slight tick from under the hood of my car, Doesnt sound like rod knock and it comes and goes. When it starts doing it i can play with the rpms a little and it will stop. What worries me is that ever since I got my loud exhaust it sounds like rod knock from inside the car and out from the tailpipe. Can you hear lifter tick out of the exhaust?

Im almost positive its not knock because just about everytime I hear it I freak and get out and pop the hood. With the hood up and my head in there it sounds like it always has with a moderate to loud lifter tick that will come and go.

Hi there well to start i dont know if you could hear a lifter noise from exhuast or even rod knock for that matter. but i do know that a cloged lifter sounds like what your explaining here. if you rev your motor and tick stops im 100% sure you got lifters cloged. wich isnt a big deal at all just really anoying. also if it was rod knock the more you rev the louder and stronger your going to hear it. well hope that awnsers your question and calms your nerves. i have been there before.

It's lifter tick from the thin passages that came with the 1g and 2g lifters. There are revised lifters that are also known as 3g lifters.

You can either take the valve cover off and clean them or you can simply upgrade them. The OEM lifters will eventually tick again. Just remember they are hydrolic lifters and must be properly installed.

this is absolutly true but from the years of 1989-1999 the 1999 year gst-gsx model have revised lifters and do not tick what so ever so if your planing on getting new ones get 1999 oem. hope this helps.

I had one of my friends with a 95 awd tell me that he used 1 quart of lucas oil stabilizer every time he changed his oil and that the head never made any noise. I tried this and it seems to happen more often and is louder now than before. I am going to get revised lifters and thats what im going to recommend to any one that asks.

Ok, I thought it was just lifter tick but it just seems weird that you can heare the exhaust kind of thump at each tick... like the sound coming from the exhaust sounds like rod knock if your head were under the hood, if that makes sense.

On a side note nice car dude, looks almost identical to mine .

i heard 50-50 about 3g lifters my opnion is go with 1999 revised lifters oem. but yet every one has there own opinion just putting mine out there.

Try to just adjust the lifters to stock spec? it will fix it. When you add stabilizers to the oil, you're only masking the issue. The stabilizer acts like a glue in a sense. Thus eliminating the tick. Adjust them to spec

sorry to say bud but hydralic lifters arnt adjustable just to let you know.
