So I was going down the highway and the motor just quit, no drag, was still in 5th gear, although I always clutch so I'm not sure if I was holding it down or not, I pulled over and having the clutch pushed it and that tranny in first gear it stared and died, so I started it again and started pumping the gas and It fired up then started smoking from the clutch so I let it die, put it in neutral and started it again it fired right up, went to let the clutch out and the petal didn't return.. So.. The slave cylinder is okay I know, as is the master, it's somethig inside the transmission. Anyone want to wager a guess what it is? Because the car rolls in gear, unless i manually push the fork back to the petal up position, but the transmission seems to be stuck.. Any ideas would be great before i pull it next weekend thanks :)

It's not a matter of the transmission being connected to the block or not, but properly connected to the block. You can have a engine mounted to the block and it may visually be fine but it can be pushing away from the block. For example, if you didn't torque the bolts down all the way (People do forget) or if they were worn and are coming loose because of that. Another reason it could be happening is a broken transmission ear, this actually happened on my friends 1g.

Well... Ive never taken it out, previous owner may have, it's completely seated to the block and visually looks okay

Most people miss the "Q" bolt because it's all the way in the back and down low. That bolt, ironically, is also one of the most crucial and is of small diameter than the others. But yes, it bolts the block ear to the trans. If you visualize a line connecting around the bellhousing, you'll see that the input shaft is within that boundary line. If you reconnect those bolts together without "Q" or "V" for that matter, the input shaft is outside the line. Any pressure exerted outside that line will act as a lever instead of distributing the force evenly among all the bolts. This is how bellhousings crack, and block ears break off. It is only made worst from there with a heavier pressure plate like the ACT2600.

But I'd put my bet on broken fingers. Pull the flywheel inspection plate and see if anything falls out.

There is no flywheel plate LOL so if anything fell out its on the highway

I had a issue similar to this. I bought a DSM sight unseen for a steel. When it was dropped off from the shipper I went to pull it in the drive way and over look it. It fired up and ran great, I walked around it make sure nothing crazy was wrong with it and made sure we wasnt leaking anything. When I went to move it it was a different story. It ended up being a few trans bolts were loose and was making it off center.

Chances are someone never put the inspection cover back on. You should be able to jack her up and take a peek inside her to see if anything is obvious.

Ive had so many transmission and clutch issues with my car. I know you may have already pulled the tranny or figured this out, but I went through 3 clutches before I found that I had two bolts missing from the bell housing to block.... One was broken off clean, so I had no idea and the other I have no idea how it got loose (user error). Back on a stock clutch for now, damn thing slips.

Point is, check that there are 5 bolts (excluding the starter bolts) that are torqued to spec and go from there.

There are 5 bolts I'm pretty sure it's my flywheel step is wrong, mine doesn't slip yet at 15 psi of boost
