okay, I have a snapped connecting rod in my 420A motor. The tech at the service shop said I need to replace the engine and he can purchase one and swap them out for $2,100.
He will get a stock long block. My question is, since the rod put notches in the cylinder walls, i need a new block but would it be cheaper to buy a short block and swap everything off of my engine onto it rather than buy a complete long block? I need the cheapest scenario possible because I just got laid off and money is really tight.

Kind of depends, if your gonna do it yourself or not. That short block that I posted will require you to send your core in, and its still kind of a performance block because you'll be going with forged pistons installed.

I'd see if you can't find a block on ebay or at a junk yard, and see if you can't do it yourself. Making sure you send it to a machine shop so they can check it and possibly clean it.

I don't know your tech guy but are you positve that the walls of the block can't be fixed?

Good luck with what your doing, it sucks when money is tight.

The cheapest way would be to find a motor and swap it out yourself. You can find running 420a's for around 500 if your lucky.
Also if you find a block to putr your internals into you will have to balance your crank. You will be putting on a new or used rod and piston that did not come out of your motor. Your crank comes from the factory balanced but rods and pistons out of different motors dont weigh the same. So if you go this route keep that in mind.
