Ok, so I installed my new pistons and rods and found out the crank is out of round( so I thought, I think I just had the rod caps backwards). Anyway, I installed my pistons for the second time and sealed the bedplate etc... and as I began to torque the main bolts I snapped the 10mm bolt in the center!:ohdamn: Now, I know what everyone is thinking or will say but my question is, if I leave that bolt out, will I still be okay to run the motor? I made sure I had a good amount of seal aroung the bedplate and it looks to be good just being held by the outer bolts. I know I'm being lazy but I really don't want to remove the pistons again and remove the crank etc..

you can take the crank out without removing the pistons. Just cover all the rod bolts with rubber hose. I promise you the crank will break the other bolt, especially on the center cap that only has two bolts. After the other bolt breaks, the crank will be next. The bottom end of the engine is not some place to cut corners. Also, it is recommended to use new bolts when you do a rebuild, so this kind of thing doesn't happen.

^^Come ON! One small bolt, tell me it wouldn't cross your mind too! LOL

OK, now who knows where I can pick up stock main bolts? Not planning on doing crasy boost so... don't really need the ARP main bolts. I only see head bolts on ebay so far.

Reusing these bolts has whats brought this on you. They are from the factory torque to yield, that means when you take them out at the very LEAST you should check them for stretching. Yes you need to take everything back apart, to fix it, if not you will be replacing what you just replaced again. :ohdamn: At least the motor is not in the car, its a PITA to get the crank out if its in the car because of the oil pump. If it where me, I would take the crank out and get the block linehoned because of you bolting the out of round crank in and torquing it down as well as breaking a main bolt. You very well could have warped the bed plate.....

This... and the rest too :thumb: Please don't try to buy one bolt, do it all, do it right.

I re-use mains with impunity. NEVER, NEVER bought new. I got one set-up that put down right around 570whp and another set-up that put down 219whp NA, and has an 8700 redline. Just have to be sure that they are not stretched.

I have yet to find a reason to put arp's in for the mains.

But in your case, I would go with a new set of stock mains, just because of the question of why your main bolt snapped.

And no, for various reasons (all ending up with a broken engine), you should not run her with a busted main bolt. Now, if it was a busted bedplate bolt.........there would be considerations to be made :p

Ha ha yeah considerations that only a person like you can make Mark! For the rest of us in the real world we better just change the damn bolt. :D

To op" I would trust Mark (bullet) on this one, save some money, buy yourself some stocks.
