smoking

I just got my 92 tsi two months ago. It idled like crap and smoked a little. I changed out the ecu, coil packs and ignitor and the idle has fixed it's self. Now it smokes after running for like 20mins unless i stay compleatly off of boost. It also blows oil out of the oil cap... I have people telling me that it's rings or my turbo and idk cause this is my first turbo car and all my friends with turbos have rx-7's. How do i see what is causing the smoke...? Do these tsi's need a different type of oil then the normal 10w-30?

The oil coming out of the oil cap is probably just the o-ring on the oil cap..very common problem on these cars. As far as the smoking issue what color is the smoke? When does it smoke? While idling, after hard pulls. during pulls. A little more information will help us help you

well i can let it idle all day and nothing... if it gets on boost it puffs out this white cloud... i know it's oil cause you can smell it... I normally shut it off after i get it home and don't tend to let it run long enough to see if it'll clear out... and btw i'm not a mechanic by any means but my brother and dad are and their a little lost on this.

It sounds like a bad turbo to me. Take off your intake pipe that goes to your turbo and check for shaft play.
I put money on that. Keep us updated
