Saw a couple posts similar but need some opinions on what all I need to plan for here. I got this car 1-1.5 weeks ago. 125k on it and even though I was told WAY DIFFERENT, pretty sure it's all stock (besides little piddly stuff). I drove it about 2-3 days and no smoke or anything. I did the oil change (put a 5-30 high mileage) and what I took out was BLACK and had a slight gas smell to it. Anywho, after the oil change it is a smokin. I get smoke when I get on it (4500-5500 rpms) and when I let off it smokes more. Then when I take off I get some more. Normal driving it doesn't smoke. Doesn't always smoke at higher rpms, but when shifting and first accelerating it does (Blueish like oil burn). Also checked for boost leaks today and WOW, whole different story. Fixed those (except some really small ones to do tomorrow). Whole problem is wasn't smoking and after oil change it is getting kinda bad. Compression is kind of low too 132-148 dry, 140-150 wet. Valve stem seals, rings, full rebuild, turbo (t-25 with very slight movement in and out, no up and down)? What do I need to save up and do?

4.5 quarts, it's right on the money. With no offense to anyone, but why is head gasket always a thought. I'm not doubting or in any way disregarding the thought. I am just curious. I'm new to dsm's and this is my first turbo so that's why I'm asking. Is it possible that head gasket is the problem and causing the low compression also? If I have multiple problems, than it is what it is, I just really need some good input here. I'm kinda tight on money (twin kiddo's $$$$$). I gotta be atleast pretty sure of what, all, or main problem I'm looking at here. And again, no disrespect at any responses, I'm just learning on this car. Just weird it only happened after the oil change. Is 5-30 too light, or coincidence? Thinking about getting some 10-30 cas syntec just to see. I've only gone 100 miles since I did it.

look for leaks....maybe oil is leaking somewhere and whered did u say the smoke is coming from anyways is it your tail pipe or the engine bay its coming from...i would jz incase do a compression check to see if ## piston rings are letting oil by...it will cause ## car to smoke also... :thumb:

shoot, I wish. As I have been "lurking around" LOL I am now concerned on the fact I'm not recirculating also. Someone on here was going to sell me setup for it, but it looks as if I can get a piece for it pretty cheap. So would that affect it in any way at all. My car does not run "great", but it's not a pos. what does the recirculating do? or lack there of? I'm going to try to get that squared away tomorrow if I can find something that will work. If not I'll order the adapter. (type rs bov) I was just figuring the turbo was ok. It stays steady at 11 psi. I thought that was kind of weak, but I'm also assuming my gauge (sunpro) is accurate. When I got it, it was pegging out my gauge (20+) So I'm guessing it's good. was putting pretty good psi out (when hooked up wrong) I don't have a boost controller yet. Can anyone explain what the recirculation does? It's the stock maf. And more importantly will ANY of this cause, help, or affect the smoking issue. I'm borderline to order some pistons and rings, valve stem seals and just tear into it. Gonna save up for the EVO 16g also.

ok, scratch that last post as I can see I almost opened a can or worms. sorry

Does anyone have any other ideas or info, etc. as from my first post on this?

idk know for sure but 20psi on a stock motor sounds kinda high to me

all recirculation means it that when u let off the accelator it take the extra pressure(boost) and sends it to the intake so its not wasted by being dumped into the atmosphere

and unless that motor was ran with full synthic before i wouldnt do it now itll prob just cause more leaks

I am having the same problem with my car right now i just havent had a day off to check it out. Ima see what i come up with my smoke didnt smell like oil though im pretty sure it was coolant burning

You talking the "springy" looking tube on the bottom going to the oil pan? It leaks a little but it's not kinked or damaged

Be careful with that thing leaking. A friend of mines busted going down the road, luckily it only destroyed his turbo from running the car without oil and not knowing. It could be your motor if your not careful. i cut the flex section out and add a heater hose. its the best way to go in my opinon.

My worry for it being the engine is that the compression is low if I'm not mistaken. (thoughts on that?) and I'm only pushing like 11 pounds, not 20. That's before I hooked the lines up right. ( thanks to all of you)

im going to say its the turbo, because in and out play is really bad. 120 is the service limit for compression.

If 120 is the service limit, am I in danger yet? Or maybe still got a ways to go? And I hope it's just the turbo and not the rings or valves. Do you think it could be all 3 or does it seem mire like turbo only? I'm just kind of stumped since it seems to symptoms of all 3, but this is my first turbo car. Easy driving 3000 rpm and below it's fine, startup is fine, but if I get on it I get some smoke, when I shift it smokes, and after I get on it some, it will smoke when accelerating. And like I mentioned, it only started after the oil change. Should I put a different oil? (5-30 recently). If it matters, I am not recirculating (yet) but have the hole plugged on the air intake.

Why does everyone keep using 5W30 in our cars when Mitsubishi recommends no thinner than 10w30, then they come here make threads bitching about low oil pressure and smoking issues with 5W30 in the car?

Drain it and put 10W30, 10W40, 15W40, 15W50, or 20W50 in the car.

didn't mean upset you. sorry, like I said n00b. I am NOT bitching, I'm just wandering if something is fkd up or not. I will change it today or tomorrow and see what happens. And I take it from your response, different oil and I'm good to go? No need to be an a$$. Everyone has been VERY helpful, but no need to "yell" at anyone just looking for some help. Any other thoughts from you or anyone on if it could, is, or might me turbo, rings, or valves would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

And my oil pressure is good. about 15 at hot idle, pegs my 100 psi gauge when on it, and cold idle 75, ,then 40ish, then 15 hot. No issues with oil pressure.

I had the same thing happen to me last week. A few weeks ago i had my car idleing for like 20 minutes and when i backed up saw a bunch of smoke, then i went to change y oil and it was pretty low and afterwards it started smokin like crazy. its it idled for more than a minute it would smoke when i hit the gas. I also noticed alot weird notice when the turbo starts to spool and its super laggy soo im pretty sure the smoke is the turbo seals. It burnt a quart of oil in a week i hope its just the the turbo im in the middle of putting my FP big t28 in but I've ran into a few problems and im waiting on new manifold-turbo bolts and a new oil feed line to finnish it up and see if that fixed my problems.

I hope that takes care of it. I think I'll try some 10-30 or maybe 10-40 since its still in the upper 70's to 80's here. good luck with the new turbo!

man i wish it was that hot here.. in denver its 39 degrees fearenhight... global warming my butt whole:argue:

I have a fully built 6 bolt, the kid I got it from said he was using 5w-20. I noticed that is was using oil and smoking some. Last oil change I put 10w-30 in, it has stopped. I would recommend the different oil myself.
