OK, so I just finished figuring out my idle surge on my rebuild, and now its running pretty damn good!!! Just have a couple questions regarding some things. I packed the oil pump with white bearing grease, and I was just wondering if that would affect the color of the oil greatly....I have already changed the oil once and it was pretty white. The oil now looks similar.

So, is this a normal situation with most rebuilds (this being my first). There are no signs of coolant lose or headgasket failure.

My next question is regarding my exhaust cam gear. It appears to be bent, not enough to actually shift the belt, but I am still going to fix it. Is there any way that the cam itself is making it appear bent (therefore the cam being the one bent), Im thinking more likely the cam gear, since its running pretty good. Just want to make sure before I order one.

Since I bought the car without seeing it run, I have no idea what previous problems were present. However, its running now, so I can start fixing everything that was wrong before.

The white grease should make its way out of the engine in a few oil changes. As long as the oil isn't a foamy bubbly consistency(meaning coolant in oil) your good.

And my best bet is it's only the gear. Take your valve cover off to be sure. If the cam was angled at all which is very doubtful you will notice it. Fix that soon though. Wouldn't be fun doing another rebuild because your T belt came off

Ya I really don't want the cam gear to cause failure to the timing belt, like I said. It isn't that bad. If the cam was actually bent what should I look for ?
I figured as much with the grease, just wanted to make sure.

Yes the white looking oil is normal. Its the grease mixing in with the oil. My oil looked exactly the same after my first couple oil changes after my rebuild. Then again, I changed the oil in increments of 20 miles, 50 miles, 150 miles, 250 miles, 1000 miles, then 3000 miles.

Ok, that sounds like similar steps I am going to take when changing my oil. Glad to know this is normal though. I changed my oil after running it for five minutes and it was pretty white. Sounds like it should go away in the next two
