had to find a trailer to get it home because the tires were dryrotted like crazy, i ended up renting a U-Haul car trailer for $55 which is amazing :thumb: but on the way home the headliner tore off the car,but i started scrubbing the engine bay and cleaning it up. My intake hose was pretty dry rotted also so i went down to the junk yard and i had suprisingly good luck and there was a 94 eclipse gs 5sp 1.8L and i found the intake hose hidden in the spare tire holder LOL, then i just started striping parts out of the car like the MAF sensor, interior trim panels, a/c knobs, brake caliper brackets since all the bolts snapped off in mine and i couldnt even get them out with easy outs and i ended up breaking two of them(bad day LOL), and other misc stuff but come to find out later this eclipse at the junkyard was my friends car and the he was laughing because he said he would of just gave me the car if he would have known that i had a dsm:| so yea thats just karma i guess

first things first i started with the brakes since it really didnt have any, i put bosch rotors, new calipers, caliper hoses, pads and caliper brackets all the way around it. It was over $800 in brakes(sorry didnt think about taking any pictures when i was doing the brakes)

you can see the shiny rotor

Sorry to start up a month old thread, but the auto to manual swap isn't as hard as it sounds, there's a VFAQ writeup on it under the drivetrain section specifically for the 1g FWD. I was about to do it myself, but I ended up buying a shell setup for a standard tranny instead. That 1.8 you found in the junkyard should have most, if not all the parts that you would need to do the swap if it is a manual; Pedal assembly, shifter base/cables, fwd tranny and starter plate, bellhousing bolts, clutch/flywheel/flywheel bolts. It shouldnt be too bad. And as far as your TCU, I'm pretty sure you just unplug it, and then wire in some sort of neutral safety swtich bypass on the harness in the engine bay where it hooks up to the main fuse/relay block.

B1ackout - Myself and a few of my buddies are pretty good with the DSM scene and we are located in Pekin. If you ever need some help or wanna hangout with some DSMers around your area give me a hollar...

Nice start to your DSm build.

Okay, seriously, I'm not trying to be a debby downer or anything but 300-400hp on motor NO TURBO or SUPERCHARGER is going to be very tough on a 4 banger. Not to mention very expensive. but none the less, I'll follow this to see what happens. - Good luck man!

Just be careful before you start buying parts based on advice received over the internet. I know that if it's on internet it's true because... so it says the internet...still...for starters a 1.8 m/t tranny is not the same as a 2.0 m/t n/t tranny. The engine blocks are different and so are pretty much all the engine mounts, and assuming the tranny would attach to the 2.0 block (which I doubt) the gear ratio would be different.

If you want to start any type of swap I would first of all download or better purchase a copy of CAPS (or the newer version of it), the Mitsubishi spare parts catalog/database so that you can verify what goes with what, let alone search the correct part number to purchase from a vendor. And keep in mind that the JY is great (I love them) but not all parts can be re-used.

Just my .02...

300-400 non-turbo? That won't happen without a 16:1 race gas setup and a 200 shot of nitrous. Even then it would be tough. With stock parts for these things being so cheap it would be silly not to turbo it. All the people that want to be "different" or try something "new" (lets face it, these cars have been around for 20-25 years, there isn't many more 'new' things to do) just ends up being slow and disappointed.

Just trying to help out.

finally got my head off this weekend and im going to send it in along with the block. im gonna run stock internals on the head. I'll be running 1g rods with topline pistons and a big 16g setup on a aftermaket manifold, but ill be running a stock intake manifold and throttle body, with a gm maft and 750cc injectors and a walbro 255, and a cxracing intercooler kit, probably a new shiny radiator too :D

I LOVE EBAY. i was bidding on a gm maf last night and got one for 1$ LOL
