Hey been noticing that my 92 TSi has slight hesitation in acceleration in low gears and in high gears (4,5) it feels like my clutch is slipping. I know it's not since it was replaced less then 10k ago. Only had this issue after the car sat for 10ish year's. Car also gets a high idle when warmed up and the BISS screws is all the way to the right if that could be related to the issue. I'm gonna jb weld the top of the intercooler since that is a common boost leak point but was wondering if it could be something else? I'm also ordering a smoke machine so I can do some proper leak testing

did you perform a boost leak test?

perform a boost leak test before doing any un-neccessary backyard jb welding
No but I was gonna look at it away and if it looks corroded I'm gonna do it just incase. and I'm waiting on a smoke machine to do a boost leak test

A smoke machine isn't a boost leak test. Boost leaks will be found under pressure. Smoke machine is good but it isn't enough. Some leaks won't be found that way.

Follow up question: could one use an electric tire pump to perform a boost leak test in place of an air compressor? Or do they not have enough juice?

Either way, tempted to try it. I have an amazon special that works for my moderately sized SUV tires, so I'm wondering if it'd be enough to pressurize the system in the Talon to like 30psi.

Best answer is maybe. Guessing probably no. You've nothing to lose trying.

What if in during its struggle, it explodes and I'm dismembered and/or die horribly?

Jokes aside, I found this.

I'm legitimately gonna build a little tester and try it out. If it works, I'll make a little modern how-to like my CAI article. If it doesn't work, someone clear my browser history first, then post up that it didn't work.

Ok thx is there anything else I should take a look at other than timing? I'm trying to do a bit matanice this weekend and am trying to make a list of tests to do and other stuff
Fuel filter, plugs, wires, fuel pressure. What all has been changed? How long has it been running since that 10 years went by? What was replaced since then?

So personally I have changed plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, fuel rail, injectors, fuel regulator, heater core, and air filter. Last ten years (previous owner) it had 3k put on it and the last 3 years it was not running due to ECU issues (capacitors went). Previous owner did the water pump, timing belt radiator, fuel pump, clutch kit, master and slave cylinder's, and that's all I know owner off the top of my head. I knew the past 2 owner's of the car and it was properly maintained and taken in to a shop for work to be done on it

I also have put 3-4k km on it since I have got it running

Update I have found that my intercooler is oxidized on the flanges so I sanded it and covered it in jb weld, that helped, but my exhaust manifold has 2 cracks in it. I'm assuming it is another source of my issues. I am also curious what manifold I should get as a replacement? I'm looking to make 350hp with the car maybe up to 500hp but not 100% sure about that much power just yet.

for a boost leak test i usually remove the intake and cap off the turbo inlet, then unhook the pcv valve hose, slide in the air tool and pressurize the system through the intake manifold

tire pump doesn't flow enough air to pressurize the system. I think i tried once for over 5 minutes and never saw 1 psi

for exhaust manifold you can use a 2g manifold or an fp manifold. I have used a dorman 2g manifold and it was well made but may be discontinued now

Yeh unfortunately a lot of things are discontinued for the 1gs. Also do you know if the CX Racing manifold's are any good? I see they are cheap but didn't know if it was an ok purchase
