Sinister 8" converter shows promising results

ive been reading on stalls alot of people are getting and some people arent able to get much boost stalling.. my car is apart at the moment, but, when i drove it i could stall my 16g to 20 psi almost instantly.. rpm would rise to about 3800~ max.. there was no hesitation in the boost gauge just straight up..

i switched to an hx-35 and some cams and i can STILL spool it to 20 psi, and slowly rise to 3800~, not as fast but within 3 seconds..

my motor has 180k, cylinder pressure is 120-130..(wore out), and the trans was stock... and if i pumped brakes up good and held e brake right i could hold it all day long.. my car i did this on was a 95 gst...so was that a fluke that i had no problem stalling??

I would say its a combination of worn out internals in the converter and the trans, plus proper tuning (maybe even stock?). I had an automatic parts car that I could stall up to 4000rpms on the stock 13g turbo. Took me about 4-5 seconds, but it did it. I put my link on it, 1600s, speed density and wired the wastegate shut. It ran 14.4s and cut 1.8 60fts all day long through the stock exhaust and everything else except the mods mentioned. It could only squeeze out a spike of 22psi and dropped rapidly down to 14.

Just an FYI. I personally am going to hold off on getting everyone chubbed up for this converter and will most likely keep my testing results private for the most part. That is until everything is ironed out and perfected with the converter, and my setup. Too many haters at the moment when this thing is just getting started and people are already knocking it, even though its in its testing phase.

too late, already chubbed asshole :)

alright guys I have a pte 6266 and i have a level 3 8 inch. I can get my rpms up to 4200 easily on a foot brake.....I have not taken it any higher at this point still feeling out this converter. The car feels amazing I must say. If your cruising around at 40 mph in 2nd gear and slam it it shoots right up to around 7200 rpms and starts pulling.

I will get some more data once i get the car dialed in a bit more and see how i can get the 2 step to go without spray.

:hellyeah:

Just got to remember, You might be able to spool it a bigger turbo with a looser converter, but up top its going to suffer MPH big time. There is a fine balance between too loose, and too tight. Most of my v8 buddies swap converters out like crazy to find the right one for what they wanna do. Nitrous converters are usually on the tight side, and motor converters are usually on the loose side.

Looking fwd to a 1/4 mile pass from ya soon :thumb:

Yup, keep an eye on his website. All my testing and feedback is going through him first as to eliminate any "rumors" to spread. So what he says on his site is a go!

Nice, I definitely will keep an eye there. The initial results on the 8" have been disappointing, but it is awesome to see that he's still trying hard to get us what we're looking for. With the effort you guys are putting into the testing it's only a matter of time before it pays off.

I love my 8" lvl 1 weighted TC. Im getting over 4500 (no n2o) off the line with the BW s372 with race cover. Shifting over 9k with the road surge shift box makes it all so much better. I been traveling so much I have no time to test it at higher speeds. I really need to get that done.

I wish someone would go to the track and test one of these. Being able to stall up your big turbos without nitrous is awsome, trapping 130 with a 74mm turbo because its too loosey goosey is NOT so awsome.

I've been emailing and keeping an eye on the website since I'm getting one and it looks like someone hit 142mph on a 72mm turbo and a new 9" Level 2a so it looks like things have improved since those numbers in the post above. :thumb:

Does anyone know who this test car is? If what that thing says is true how i'm interpreting it, seems like it's definitely in the right direction. I'm curious to see some more specific data though, like tire size, more details on flash/brake boost behavior to compare to my current converter data

I would like to know how much power it was making is the important thing 142 is not good for a 72mm turbo if it was running any real boost, Jason traps 150mph on his 67mm and the Asap guys almost 160 on a 67. Saying it trapped 142 means nothing if the car should have been trapping 160.

That's true, part of what I want to know too. 142 isn't much for a 72mm but the boost could be down to a lower power level. If it's a tin can race car it may not be making a lot of power. My car weighed 3200 lbs on MIR's scales and trapped 140mph on 26" tire at 8500-8600 RPM in 3rd. I'm guessing my hp to be comparable to that of a 650-700ish whp MT car. If someone can make me a magical converter that will flash higher without giving up any of my top end vs what I have I'll buy it for sure, but I also have a feeling if it was that easy it'd have been done already. I also don't want to be going down the track at 8.5k the whole way, being efficient at 8500-9000 enough to get some mph doesn't do any good if i'm blowing through 70% of my powerband.

That said though I'm assuming the 142mph at 8600 RPM is track data which means if he's hitting 142mph trap speeds at 8600 RPM it's gotta be making some decent power with decent efficiency. If the motor was making enough power to trap 160 and the converter is slipping enough to lower it to 142mph wouldn't the engine RPM be much much higher than 8600 RPM? I couldn't see the point of uncertainty if it was just a highway pull though.

142 at 8600 in 3rd would be promising but I don't see that posted anywhere in this thread.

CONVERTER BETA UPDATE
*5-7-12

9″, 2G, Core 1 (Negative Impeller Vanes), Level 2a (a is the new turbine reinforcement with increased Turbine to Stator efficiency), Stator = 20 Blade, Weighted to 27lbs,
Beta = 2.0L, 72mm turbo, FWD, Non Nitrous, No 2 Step, is pushing through the brakes at 4100rpm. Customer is seeing 142mph in the 1/4 at 8600rpm

Do the FWD Auto trannies have a taller gear ratio setup?
Both the F4A33 and the W4A33 have the same gear ratio in the transmission..
Because of the transfer case and rear end, the final drive is different...
This is on a 1g, I don't have a book on the 2g to know if its the same or not..
Final Drive --- 4.376:1 (F4A33 )
----------------4.422:1 (W4A33)

Final Drive --- 4.376:1 (F4A33 )
----------------4.422:1 (W4A33)

This link has it differently? Shop Manual vs Tech Manual I guess.

Just noticed it says its a 2g converter, there are plenty of working 2g options. I thought this was about making a 1g converter that works?

My 2 sources (1993-1994)have the same info..:idontknow:

^That auto at 4.42 seems really high and others have shown 3.97 so I wish there was a true consensus on the Final Drive numbers.

JOHNTSI, you're a tough manual transmission guy to please. If it works on a 2G, Sinister makes it fit a 1G and vice versa. There's only 1 other aftermarket 2G converter, the rest are all restalls so not so sure about "plenty" of options.

Any updates Turbodsm90?
