so my right front caliper was sticking for the past few weeks making my rotor nice n hot but not totally ####ed where it was way too hot to get around...until i was driving in a snow blizzard coming off the freeway and touched the brakes and it grabbed and pulled me sideways drivers door into a light pole pinching my seat and me and totaling my mint 90 tsi , uni-body is ####ed actually i pealed out after out of the ditch and out from around the pole which my car was kinda formed around and drove home in alignment for the most part with a little shake.the motor is solid and fresh rebuilt ,the car was mint so besides the uni-body and the door and my seat the car has a lot of usable stuff. any ideas where to go from here ? :banghead:  :banghead:  :sosad:

Wow, hard way to learn to fix things before it gets worse :ohdamn:

Pick up a roller and swap out your good parts. I looked on craigslist the other day and there were quite a few in the Cleveland/Akron/Ashtabula area.

Not exactly sure what your budget is, but might be hard to find no rust here in ohio!

Salvage what you can, and swap it over to a new shell. Pretty much where you are at now, besides parting it out, or selling it.

I live near cleveland and have a shell I might be looking to sell. pm me if interested. Also have a friend with a shell as well.

I just came in here because I thought I smelled tacos... :sneaky:

Having worked on a car like that, I would say don't waste your time. You won't likely ever get it to drive straight and true again after that sort of hit. Just like the other guys said... Roller.

So you knew the car had a fault IN THE BRAKES and you drove it IN SNOWY CONDITIONS?

That was very responsible,i suppose you have learned the lesson the hard and painful way.

Lesson: driving around with a known fault is just not worth it.

Imagine what would have happened when a child was standing on the side of the road waiting to cross..and your car slid injuring the child? or what if some one with asimular defekt..knowingly drove the car and injured/killed someone you knew?

Think about it before you answer my post.

Oh: find another shell, and swap everything over.. take your time.wont swap everything over on a weekend.

I'm not a mod, so feel free to ignore me, but starting to talk about the cause of the accident will not do anything useful. Some might take the data as given and, like Raph, ask whether the OP should have been driving. Others might believe that there was nothing actually wrong with the OP's brakes; that he just crashed his car on snow and doesn't want to admit it. None of this will help because it will turn in a worthless flame-fest; no-one who would drive a car on snow with bad brakes is going to see this and not do it; no-one who drives like an idiot on snow is going to stop because he or she read this thread. Thus, I'd stay focused on the OP's question: what do you do with a car with lots of nice parts, but a trashed unibody?

i did say his best bet would be to park it up and swap everything into another shell.^^

If he wants to/dedicated to the car, that would be a suitable course of action.

Or he could sell off/part out the car?? Ultimatley, the OP needs to decide what is doable as only he knows his ability/finances and if he has the time/tools to swap shells(which isnt n easy job for someone who hasnt done alot of tinkering on cars)
Maybe if the OP rounds up some friends,it could be done in a few days.
